Recap from the USA CFC National Championships 2022, 4/9 to 4/10.

Whether they’ve been here for 4 years or two semesters, we are proud to congratulate these graduates of The University of Texas. This team is a family, and it wouldn’t be the same without each and every one of them.

I asked each of them: what is something you loved about that you hope the continues to embody in the years to come. Here’s what they said:

Justin Ong (1) “Joining the club I was narrow-minded in my goals. I just wanted to experience a sport and be good at it. However as time went on, I found some of my best friends from it and learned more than just fencing. You come to learn how to communicate through both words and actions. Just by whacking at my fellow club mates, I’ve come to witness the camaraderie, diversity, hopefulness, and struggling all exist in one place: the tip of the blade.”

Jadie Pruitt (2) “I really loved the community we created in the fencing club. You join for the sport but you stay for the friends you make. This year we’ve rebuilt our sense of community and team spirit after a really tough year. And I hope that the club continues to grow together and encourage one another.”

Parker Miller (3) “I really appreciated how welcoming and patient everyone was with me while I learned how to fence. In my previous experiences with other sports, people would sometimes be overly competitive and toxic, but I didn’t see any of that at UTFC.”

Dillon Henry (5) is me and I like fencing :)
