The Cosmo Memorial Scholarship Fund honors the memory of Sensei Jonathan's nephew Cosmo, whose life was a beautiful, living example of what he believed: to live fully, to love deeply, and to lift others up.

Cosmo's spirit of kindness, presence, and joyful curiosity is at the very heart of Life Ki-do. And in his memory, we created this fund to help more families in the Austin area access the kind of training and community that Life Ki-do offers, regardless of their financial situation. Every contribution goes directly to tuition and training gear for students who need it. 100% of proceeds go to the fund.

There are two ways to support the fund. You can purchase a customizable Life Ki-do yard sign celebrating your child's training journey, or make a one-time or recurring monetary donation of any amount.

If his story resonates with you, we would be deeply grateful for your support in keeping his message alive and growing.

Here is a question worth sitting with for a moment. When was the last time your mind got a genuine break? Not scrolling. Not zoning out. An actual break where your attention was so fully placed on what your body was doing that the inbox, the to-do list, and the daily stress just quietly disappeared?

That is what Sensei Jonathan is describing in this clip. The flow state that Tai Chi creates when Body, Breath, and Brain are working together with just the right amount of effort. Fully present. Fully alive. Fully in the moment.

It is not mystical. It is not complicated. It is the result of a very specific way of moving, breathing, and focusing β€” and the full video dropping today walks through exactly how to get there from the very beginning.

The blog article is also live today and pairs beautifully with the video for anyone who wants to go even deeper on the Life Ki-do approach to Tai Chi.

This review made our whole team smile from ear to ear. πŸŽ‰

Over a year of classes. A 5th birthday party right here at the dojo. And a little boy who considers Life Ki-do his favorite thing he does every single week. That is everything we work for.

What this family describes is exactly the environment we set out to create at Life Ki-do in Westlake. A place where children learn respect, body control, compassion, and self-awareness not through lectures or drills, but through movement, play, and community. A place kids ask to come back to, week after week, because it genuinely feels like theirs.

And birthday parties at the dojo? One of our absolute favorite things we get to do. Watching a child celebrate surrounded by friends in a space where they feel confident and at home is the kind of moment that stays with you.

To this wonderful family, thank you so much. Watching your son grow over this past year has been a true privilege. πŸ’›

If you have a child in Westlake Hills, Rollingwood, Barton Creek, or across Austin who is looking for that kind of environment, we would love to meet them.

Most people know Tai Chi is good for them. Far fewer know exactly why. πŸ’§

This clip from Sensei Jonathan gets into something that doesn't get talked about enough in Tai Chi: the relationship between tension and relaxation in the body, and what it actually feels like to move with a fluid, water-like quality instead of the tightness most of us carry around all day without even noticing.

Thursday's full video is a genuine deep dive into how Life Ki-do teaches Tai Chi from the ground up. Using the Body, Breath, and Brain framework, Jonathan walks through how to optimize the way you move, breathe, and focus so that Tai Chi becomes something you actually feel rather than just something you do.

Whether you have tried Tai Chi before or have always been curious but never started, this video was made for you. And for the dads in our community this June β€” Tai Chi is included in the free training offer all month long. More on that in our recent post.

Life Ki-do families, we have something special for the dads this June. πŸ’›

All month long, dads train free. Unlimited access to our Teen/Adult Martial Arts, Adult Martial Arts, and Tai Chi classes from June 1st through June 30th. No experience needed and no pre-registration required. Just come in, show up, and train.

We know how much dads pour into their families, their work, and everyone around them. This Father's Day season, we want to give them something that is genuinely for them. An hour on the mat is an hour to build strength, reduce stress, sharpen focus, and reconnect with themselves in a way that makes everything else a little easier.

Here is everything included:
πŸ₯‹ Teen/Adult Martial Arts Classes (ages 13+)
πŸ₯‹ Adult Martial Arts Classes (ages 18+)
🧘 Tai Chi Classes (ages 18+)

If dad decides he loves it and wants to keep training after June, we will also waive the $120 registration fee for anyone who enrolls before June 30th. That is a great deal on top of a free month.

Current Life Ki-do dads who are already members can take advantage of unlimited classes throughout June at no additional cost. A perfect time to train more consistently, try a new class, or finally give Tai Chi a shot.

This offer is exclusively for current Life Ki-do families. Tag the dad in your life below and send him the link. We would love to see more dads on the mat this month. πŸ™Œ

Here's something Sensei Jonathan said in this past Thursday's full video that every parent needs to hear. πŸ’›

We can see, from our own experience, exactly what would help our child in a given moment. And so we say it. We correct. We show them a better way. It comes from love and it feels like helping.

But the reality is that as soon as we start doing that, a wall goes up. Not because our child doesn't love us. Not because our intention was wrong. But because we are not them and we do not know their path. And children, at every age, need to feel their own agency in figuring it out.

This is one of the central ideas in Jonathan's full video that dropped on Thursday and it's a conversation worth having in every family. Why the correction instinct creates distance even when it comes from care, and what parents can do instead to stay genuinely connected with their kids.

The full video and blog article are both live now. Watch it, read it, and share it with a parent in your life who needs it.

Here's a question Sensei Jonathan asks in today's video that stopped us cold. πŸ’› What is it like inside your child's mind right now?

Not what should they be doing differently. Not how can we correct their thinking. What is it actually like to be them, in their world, seeing life through their eyes?

That shift from trying to fix to genuinely wanting to understand is at the heart of today's full video and brand new blog article. Jonathan gets personal about his own experience as a dad, why even the most well-intentioned correction can quietly push kids away, and what it looks like to replace the fix-it instinct with real curiosity and collaboration.

It's one of the most honest parenting conversations he has ever put on camera. And the blog article that pairs with it is worth bookmarking and coming back to.

This review made our whole team smile. πŸ’›

Four years. From age 3 to age 7. And a family that has watched their son grow in self-control, confidence, and leadership every step of the way β€” thanks in large part to one incredibly dedicated instructor.

Sensei Doug is one of those rare people who was simply born to work with children. The patience, the presence, the ability to connect with a 3-year-old on their level and still be exactly what that same child needs four years later β€” that's not something you can teach. It's a gift. And our Life Ki-do community in Westlake is better because he is in it.

To the family who wrote this review, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Knowing that Sensei Doug has made this kind of difference in your son's life is exactly why we do what we do every single day.

If your child is looking for that kind of consistent, caring mentorship in Austin or Westlake Hills, we would love to introduce you to our team.
