Anything we do (or what we don't do) shows up when we "do Pilates."

For example:
🪾🍃Yard work (we spent 4+ hours prepping a bed, raking spring leaves, planting the day before I did this class)

💪Other exercise - I taught a Pumped Up Strength class before this. I am stronger for it; and, my body feels tighter. Some of these exercises feel harder.

Doing Pilates is different every time because our bodies are a little different every day.

🎬It's a wrap on March MATness 2026 -- 31 days of mat Pilates practice.

See you in April!

A few years ago I started getting comments from friends (on IG and in person) who watched snippets of my Pilates videos and did the exercises.

Often comments are about this mat Pilates exercise known as "swimming." (And leg circles)

Most comments sound a lot like this -- and I love you all!

It's a mix of curiosity, admiration, and sometimes indignance, like:

Why was that hard?

(Or, It didn't look hard or I do other things to work out. Or, I know I'm out of shape and thought I could start Pilates and now I'm not sure.)

Sometimes there's a question underneath, like: what does this mean about me?

I'd say it means that you're curious about what your body can do and THAT is a great quality.

It also means this may be novel movement and your brain is figuring it out.

Messy, wiggly Pilates is still Pilates, part 2.

Excerpts from a brisk and "old-fashioned" mat class on a video, this teaser is different from what/how I usually teach -- and I kinda like it.

Hip twist?! I appreciate how .pilates teachers approach it (thanks .logan): Do it quick and move on. Don't luxuriate in it's difficulty!

I'm an expert at trying.

Happy 2026 everyone!

Are we making New Year's resolutions?

Or how about New Year's decisions?

The reason I like framing resolutions as decisions is because I can practice and improve my decision-making skills all year long.

If making resolutions feels overwhelming or overly ambitious, let's simplify.

I offer free consult calls that strengthen your decision making skills so that you see the path to feeling better about exercise, health, work, and life. DM me to schedule or see link in profile to find a time that works for you.

The year before I started Pilates teacher training, my family gave me a Balanced Body Pilates Circle for Christmas.

I didn't know WHAT TO DO WITH IT.

I'd been in Pilates mat classes with balls and thick bands and group reformer classes for two years

But those "magic circles?" I'll be honest the magic was lost on me.

Then six years ago I began adapting equipment-based exercises for mat classes via Zoom.

Ah-ha! It is a magical ring.

A Pilates circle offers resistance and assistance. It can mimic our relationship with springs on Pilates equipment. Act like a pedal on the Wunda chair.

Curious about Pilates? One more mat class in 2025 and many more in the New Year.
