Match Summary : LCC vs UCC, 9/27
LCC started off their Fall CTCL season with a match against UCC and fell short in a game they should have won.
After losing the toss, new opener James and new captain Shub started the innings solidly very nicely helped along by a large number of extras. They shared an opening stand of more than 100 runs before James departed soon after a well compiled half century. His wicket led to 2 other quick wickets before Ankit and Shub calmed things down and then accelerated well towards the end to take LCC to 191/4 in 28 overs. Shub carried his bat and really held the innings together with a crucial half century.
UCC started batting positively and targeted Zain and raced to a quickfire 50 off 7 overs before the spinners brought things under control. James exchanged his keeping pads with Zain (who kept very well as a part time keeper) and bowled his very useful spin and extracted 2 crucial wickets before holding on to 3 catches and executed a smooth stumping. Shub and Ankit bowled well and brought the required run rate to more than 10 runs an over the last 7 overs. Ankit bowled really well in the death and was very hard to get away, and came very close to getting eventual Man of the Match Daniyal out but Zain dropped the skier, a quite a important drop in the context of the game. UCC captain Daniyal and Hamza got together and hit some l***y blows and got the equation down to 36 off 2 overs before Shub conceded 23 runs in the penultimate over handing the momentum back to UCC who eventually ended the game with a 6 in the last over.
Overall, a solid performance by the team let down by not holding on to the catches and some sloppy death bowling.
Update : Congratulations to Zain as he has joined the board as the Publicity Director.
Earlier this summer Longhorn Cricket Club encouraged Central Texas Cricket League to take the initiative of teaching elementary school kids about cricket. It looks like the kids enjoyed it a lot. Thank you CTCL for going through with the idea. University of Texas Longhorn Cricket Club will continue to do their part in promoting cricket!!

Longhorns dished out a dream performance, with both bat and ball to clinch a very important game on Saturday.
After losing the toss and having to bat on a cold, windy morning, few heads were down. Our captain Zain stepped up and decided to open the innings along with Amar. Zain put in a gutsy innings of 51, comprising of only 3 boundaries and a multitude of doubles. Shubham supported him very well at the other end, and upon Zain's dismissal took the role of the more aggressive batsman in the next partnership with Aman. Shubham played some scintillating shots from about the 20th till the 25th over, after which he was run out. Aman and Hassan batted beautifully and pushed the already monstrous total to an almost out of reach 237 in just 30 overs. Hassan ended up with a score of 32 in just 13 balls, with 3 boundaries, and a six, and his partner Aman too smashed 7 boundaries and ended up with 56 of 33 balls.
We knew we had a humongous total on board, but we can never take it easy in cricket. Nilabh and Prateek opened the bowling positively and where Nilabh kept it tight, Prateek bowled unplayable deliveries and struck from the other end. Hassan too came in as 1st change and bowled as tight as he ever could, and gave away only 20 runs in 5 overs, taking 2 wickets, and all this when the asking rate was nearly 11. Shubham and Ankit doubled up on the spin twins for the team, and while the stats don't reflect too much, they bowled well in patches especially since the asking rate was 12+ and the batsmen were simply trying to slog them each ball. Eishaan ended the proceedings for us by picking up the last 2 wickets in a spell that consisted of only 4 balls.
All in all, it was a superb performance with both bat and ball by the Longhorns. If we can keep a check on the extras (36 of them), then in the next few games we are going to be a force to reckon with.
