Austin PARD Operating Procedures:
Temporary Changes to Pharr Tennis Center
Based on state law, federal guidance, and Governor Abbott’s disaster declaration, the Texas
Municipal League (TML) and United States Tennis Association (USTA) has updated requirements for tennis centers operations to assist in providing safe tennis play
for staff and player during COVID-19.
In following TML requirements and USTA recommendations, the following procedures shall be
enacted and followed at PARD Centralized Programs Division-Athletic Programs contracted
tennis centers beginning Monday, May 4, 2020 and continuing until further notice:
Facility Operations –
• Reduced Operational Hours to 8:00AM-8:00PM Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-6:00PM Saturday and Sunday
• Limit court access

o Courts will be limited to four (4) people per court, including any staff for no more than 90 minutes .

o Backboard will be limited to no more than 2 players at a time and for 30 minutes only

• All tournaments/leagues, large group programs, and events continue to be suspended
until further notice.

• Group and Individual lessons will have limitations with restrictions in place for the safety
of staff and players:

o Lessons will be at a 3:1 ratio or less, allowing 10 minutes between each session to sanitize hoppers, benches and other surfaces/contact points

• No walk-ins will be allowed - All court reservations must be made in advance by calling the
front desk.

Pro Shop and Amenities –
• Gathering in the facility lobby will not be
allowed. Limited guests inside the Pro Shop to practice and maintain Social Distancing
recommendation of at least six (6) feet.
• Facility restrooms will remain open for use; Showers and locker areas will be closed.
• Drinking fountains will remain open for use; Ice machine will be closed, and water
coolers will not be provided until further notice.

Sanitation and Hygiene –
• Practice Social Distancing – stay at least 6 feet away from other people. On the court,
in the building(s), and in the parking lots.
• Encourage all players/patrons and staff to thoroughly wash your hands frequently and
adopt the other principles of a good hygiene strategy, including washing hands prior to
play and directly after play and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), such as
masks and gloves where appropriate.
• All surfaces—such as counters, tabletops, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures and
toilets—will be cleaned several times a day wearing disposable gloves.
• All court gates and stair rails will be wrapped with caution tape to discourage
touching, or will be wiped down every hour.
• All gates will be roped off or left open to prevent touching.

Recommendation for Play – We recommend:
• Limiting play to singles if playing with a non-family/different household opponent,
doubles play with family/same household opponents.
• Players/patrons to bring their own hand sanitizer and disinfect wipes.
• Players/patrons to utilize PPE where appropriate and/or feasible.
• For players do not change ends of the court to ensure social distancing.
• When possible, use of new tennis balls is recommended for play. Utilize your foot and
racquet to pick up balls.
• To refrain from physical contact in the form of hand shaking, fist bumps, or high fives
while on the court.
• Junior players under 18 should be accompanied by parent/guardian - Limit to 1
