On Tuesday, July 1, we lost an incredibly special person, friend and teammate. Lennie Antonelli brightened every space he inhabited with his smile and enthusiasm. A graduate of Indiana University, Lennie became passionate about bike racing through competing in the Little 500.

He joined Super Squadra Asheville in 2023 and received his category 1 upgrade while racing at Tulsa Tough that same year. Both his Asheville and Austin teammates cheered Lennie on as he raced to a top-10 finish on Crybaby Hill. Lennie went on to compete at the professional national criterium championships, and had won his most recent race alongside his friends and teammates.

Lennie passed away while participating in a Tuesday night group ride in Asheville. A person driving a dump truck crossed the center line and struck Lennie and another rider, Jake Hill, who was also killed.

The Asheville cycling community gathered for a memorial ride in honor of Lennie and Jake, and held a remembrance at Liberty Bikes, where Lennie worked. Donations in Lennie’s name can be made to the Logan Center in South Bend, Indiana.

Lennie embodied the ethos of Super Squadra, and his spirit will carry forward in every ride, race and activity we participate in.

We miss you, Lennie.

SUPERTEAM!! Gone racing at State Crit Championships! In the 40+ Masters race and got separation from the field after a brutal race of non stop attacks, and rolled in for the big W! In the Cat 2 ._.myers attacked in the first few laps and lapped the field with the break. Secured 2nd in the final. kept the field in lockdown and didn’t let anyone slip up the road. In the Pro race made the late break and sprinted for 6th with winning the field sprint for 9th! It was a great early season with many great results, and now the squad preps for Tulsa Tough. 🔴👑

⭐️ 2025 P12 STATE TIME TRIAL CHAMPION ⭐️

Matt Crawford: “Took 6 years to finally get the top step :) My chainlink came undone and my chain fell off as I pedaled down the ramp. No idea how that happened, but I didn’t kick my bike and stayed calm…got it put back together and pedaled away after a min or so. Still got a sweet jersey!”
