Slowly but surely I'm on my back to recovery. After being carried off the trail in May, I had ankle reconstructive surgery. I can actually see a calf muscle! I can't wait to get back to running my favorite trails. One day at a time.

I really want to build a community of local trail runners in the Austin area. Feel free to share your stories about running on the trails in Austin and the surrounding areas. Do you need some advice on trails? Message me! I'm native to Austin! Not jus a native Austinite but native to the tribes here locally before it was Austin. I love my city and I love sharing my passion for running. I may be injured, but I can still help or live vicariously through your runs.

This is J.E.B., the chemical engineering building at . I'm so honored to be able to attend classes on this amazing campus. I'm able to get around campus easier each week. Now, I can see much more of it. I'm swimming 3 times a week. I got cleared to do 10-minutes at low intensity on a stationary bike and a few simple sun salutations. I'll be adding this prior to my swims. Always a work in progress! I'm so excited for each step forward ☺ 🤗 I never thought I'd be dreaming of the day I can run on a treadmill. I know I still have a lot of work to do, but my PT and Chiro say that I'm progressing very well. I was so excited to do some side planks on Friday. The hardest thing to do as an endurance athlete is, not pushing one's self. As my body gets stronger, my mind is coming back into focus. Im still struggling with some stuff at school, but I have to follow my own advice and have compassion for myself. All this, so I can be on the trails, road, and cycle again one day!
Are you struggling with an injury? Feel free to reach out. You're not alone.

Got my stitches out on 9/10 from my hip surgery and was in the pool to get 1700 yards on 9/11. Today I did 2000 yards at A&M. I had a very strong swim. I did not get to swim with the NCAA champions, but after seeing them (pic below) I was extra motivated. One step closer to getting back to my trails! I should be able to start riding a bike in a couple of weeks. My awesome PT, Lisa, is keeping me level, so I don't go too hard too fast. Just to be able to walk some trails will be amazing.
Feel free to share pictures from your trail runs!

This is the entrance to the chemistry building . There is a ramp on the other side of the building, which is not a solution for one on crutches. To get to entrance, there are several other steps. I feel very discouraged when faced with this, but I push through to get to class. Sometimes I wish someone would just pick me up and drop me off at my destination 😆 I am thankful that I will be walking again in due time.

Obligatory first day of school picture. Sitting in my inorganic chemistry class waiting for it to start. Getting around campus after hip surgery on crutches has been very difficult, but I'm doing it. Nothing is going to stop me from attaining my goals. I'll be able to walk with a cane after I get my stitches out next Thursday.

After getting kicked out of the pool yesterday, I had to get back there. The whole pool was mine! Nothing better than swimming with a little overcast.
I'm on the schedule for surgery on the 27th. Not sure if I'm going to do it, or try to push it out to winter break. My first semester on campus and this old lady needs hip surgery. My mobility is limited and I'm ready to start the road to recovery. I have a race in November and January. If I want to race, I have to do it now.

This semester has kicked my butt. I finished my first semester in Chemical Engineering, and I'm celebrating with a run. I still have two more weeks in my other courses, but celebrating this small victory.
Greenbelt, old friend, you have been missed. A good 7 miles should be enough. Still have to do some stuff for other classes or I'd stay all day.
I have a sprint tri on 5/31 and a trail half marathon with Tejas Trails on 6/5. I don't have much time to get back my conditioning. Just means I have to work hard. If you know me, you know I'll get it.
