A little NYC Roller Skating History for you this morning! Happy Skating!

Did you know that the first modern quad roller skates were patented in 1863 by James L. Plimpton, a New York City furniture dealer? Plimpton went on to found the New York Roller Skating Association in hopes of promoting the sport as an acceptable supervised activity for young people. In the summer of 1866, the roller skating association leased a hotel in Newport, Rhode Island, and converted the dining room into the first roller rink open to the public in the United States. BEST JOB EVER ALERT! Work at our new Dreamland Roller Rink at Industry City in Sunset Park, Brooklyn! Are you dreaming of a job that’s full of rainbows, good vibes and roller disco magic? Good news! We are hiring for the following positions!
• Skate Guards- must be proficient at roller skating or roller blading
• Admissions, bag check, skate rental customer service
• Rink manager
• Music maestro/House DJ- this is a consistent position, paid an hourly rate
• Special event DJ- DJ at our various themed or one off events
• House photographer- hourly rate, full or part time

Roller Rink experience isn’t necessary, however strong customer service skills are VERY important!
