We got the crew together for a nervous system workshop so we can better understand how to serve our clients

A big part of that starts with us

Becoming more aware of our own state while we coach, how we show up in the room, and how that impacts the person in front of us

From there, we can better recognize what state someone may be in when they walk through the door, and what state certain corrective exercises may bring them into

Because if someone is stressed, guarded, shut down, or overstimulated, more information is not always what they need

They may need a better environment to stay present, stay connected, and work through the process

The more aware we become as practitioners, the better we can support our clients

That’s the goal at FP Texas

Are FP Results Faked?

We don’t always have the answers
Even when we feel like we should

And that’s okay

It’s not a weakness, it’s reality
What matters is how we respond

That’s why we have community to connect, lean on each other, and find clarity when problems arise,
because the best solutions don’t come from one perspective, they come from shared insight

That includes leadership, employees, clients, and friends
We’re all in this together, and when the questions get difficult, we don’t pretend to have it all figured out, we lean on one another

That’s how we operate, not as individuals with all the answers, but as a group of thinkers and doers who trust each other enough to figure it out

We’ve got some exciting endeavors ahead this year, and they’ve come to fruition because of that mindset: unity, collaboration, and ex*****on

We’re building it together

Force is always moving through the body.

When it’s not being distributed well, it ends up getting absorbed in certain areas more than others.

Over time, those areas take on more than they should. That’s where things start to break down.

Working only on the painful spot might help for a bit, but it doesn’t change how the body is managing force.

When you improve force distribution, you change how stress moves through the system. That’s what actually leads to lasting change.

Where Posture Meets Play

🌞 This June, our space will be filled with movement, curiosity, and connection as we host our first Kids Summer Camp at Functional Patterns Texas.

🤸 For four days, kids ages 8+ will explore how to move with intention, build confidence through posture and coordination, and learn simple tools for recovery and self-care.

💗 We’re excited to help the next generation grow stronger—physically and mentally—in an environment that’s both fun and educational.

DM us to learn more or save a spot for your kid.

It’s been a while since we’ve posted... We've taken a step back from social media to focus on something big. Sessions like these Soft Skill Solutions Team Meetings are just a glimpse of where our energy has been directed. 💣

Posted • The deadlift is touted as one of the kings of all exercise, yet so many people fail to see the damaging effects it has on the body over time. We'll get stuck into reasons why you should steer clear of deadlifts so you can save time having to rehab yourself before getting wrecked.

As it relates to the posterior chain, doing a loaded bilateral hip hinge and staying stuck in the saggital plane has little to no transferability to how humans move. When you look at world champion athletes function it's clear that the the transverse plane, frontal plane and saggital plane all have to work together at the same time to create propulsion in the body.

You also have to account for the fact that the posterior chain evolved over millions of years to perform the function of hip extension, and at the top phase of the deadlift there is literally no load placed on glutes.
Meaning all of that weight is just creating a shearing force on your lumbar spine that's going to disfigure it and cause pain over time.

Running with precision is what's going to give you the posterior chain development without the compression and problems that come along with deadlifting. Nature carved out a blueprint for humans to move and function a certain way, so if you decide not to take that into consideration when you train, then you're in for a rough ride.

If there's one thing Functional Patterns is known for, it's picking up the pieces and filling in the gaps where others have failed. The deadlift is one of the many ways people have destroyed their bodies thinking it was the optimal way to train. While the intentions of the deadlift might be good, we should always question what might be missing the mark in it’s application.
