For many runners, this is the missing piece. I think at this point we all know on an intellectual level that we need to be strength training for our longevity and performance, but it can absolutely be overwhelming as a runner to try to figure out how to incorporate strength training in a way that’s not going to absolutely wreck our legs or make us so fatigued that we can’t perform what we need to do in Run workouts.
research has shown that strength training can be transformative for middle and long distance runners by contributing to efficiencies in running economy and preventing fatigue resistance. A.k.a, you can run with better form and more efficiently for longer while getting less tired! Sounds great, right? So, where do we start?
The most effective style of strength training for runners is going to be progressive overload strength around 80% of your one max - a.k.a., you don’t need to be powerlifting, but you do need sufficient stimulus in order to be able to help muscle muscles grow and get strong stronger.
My program ALIGN needs to do this by incorporating intentionally balanced work across all of our essential movement patterns, while putting an additional emphasis on unilateral, legwork and deep core work for pelvic stability — incredible for runners!
I’ve planned it all out for you!
Comment STRONG - and I’ll send you access to the program for a free week! Also, please save these slides so you can look at what different splits with running and strength could look like.
Truly, every runner is unique, and depending on your volume you’ll wanna balance that differently with strength. Ask any questions below, let’s get it.!
