Notre Dame is off to a hot start with its 2025 class and that group got stronger with the Irish picking up a commitment from Green Bay (Wis.) Notre Dame Academy star James Flanigan.

Flanigan is a 6-5, 225-pound standout that earned a 4.0-star and a Top 150 caliber ranking grade on the Irish Breakdown board to go with a 4.5-star upside grade. He hauled in 22 passes for 520 yards (23.6 YPC) and nine touchdowns as a sophomore. A two-way standout, Flanigan also racked up 66 tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks as a defensive end.

Now these two here are what we boxing heads call royalty…… Archie Moore aka ‘the old mongoose’ is one of only a select few of fighters to of compiled over 100 knockouts…(he has 131-132 depending on your sources)…. Former world light heavyweight champion and the only man to of fought both Rocky Marciano and a then named Cassius Clay aka Muhammad Ali.
Then we have the ‘Sugar man’ ‘Smitty’ ‘Robbie’…….. Sugar Ray Robinson…arguably the greatest pound for pound fighter to have ever entered the squared ring. Robinson too is a member of the ton plus knockout club (109KOs) and a former 6 times world champion… 1 X welterweight and 5 times middleweight champion of the world.

Between the two men’s recorded records stands an incredible 419 bouts and 241 knockouts….. you could give or take a bout or a ko either side of the numbers stated yet I’m sure you will agree the statistics are unheard of with two fighters each fighting 200 bouts…and that’s only within the professional ranks or bouts actually noted….it’s suggested Moore fought more as he travelled from city to city and Robinson as we know was a hugely successful amateur winning many titles where he had close to another 100 fights or so…… between them their careers spanned over 50 years. These kind of numbers are ridiculous in comparison to today’s game where a career of 40 fights over 10-15 years is a good run.
Archie Moore and Sugar Ray Robinson were a different breed of fighter….. they are boxing royalty. Kings amongst men.

UPDATE: Hello everybody; an update regarding this post. Sadly Mr. Stancy Dee Cardwell died on July 1, 2023 at the Hospice Home in High Point. His funeral service was held on Friday, July 7.
