Since the Fall of 2023 we have observed a moment of silence before each match on the first day of our Fall season in memory of our friend and Salsa Verde FC teammate, Mariosl Quiroz, and all the teammates, friends and loved ones we’ve lost.
As I’ve shared in the past, the autumnal months are for deep reflection, embracing changes and gratitude as we find comfort in cooler breezes and transition to our festive traditions with friends and family. For many of us – for me – soccer and the magical time we get to spend with this special community is therapeutic and uplifting for the mind, body and spirit. In these moments I’ve held Marisol, Jonathan, Jenny, and unfortunately too many others I’ve lost over the years close, the friends and loved ones I still get to see closer, and reflecting on what I can do to ensure our community always has a welcoming place to play this game and convene with others safely. In this special moment we honour them and each other, and through our amazing Saturday tradition of soccer and building thriving community, the memorial endures.
