First time shooting the Indiana IDPA state championship. Very good match. All in all I’m happy with my performance. Top 10 finish in Carry Optics.

Made a comparison video from yesterdays GPA match between me and Brian. I’m on top. Our raw times were very similar with Brian being about 1.6 sec faster over all. I edged him out of first with less points down. Some quick stats for the comparison. I’m 44. Brian is 53. I’m right handed. Brian is left handed. I shoot a shadow 2 with Boaz 147 cmj and I think Brian was shooting his Staccato HD P4.5 ported by Monsoon Tactical and S&B 124gr. I’ve been shooting matches for about 2.5 years consistently and I train and dry fire a lot. Brian has been shooting for 8-9 years consistently and doesn’t train very often and doesn’t dry fire. I was heavily into sports until I was about 20 then stopped for 20 years. Brian maintained his athleticism through adulthood. You can see how choppy and tense I am at times trying to maintain a high level of aggression. Brian is more fluid even while being aggressive. Brian also is great at stage planning so being athletic and understanding how to shoot a stage as well as to your abilities/strengths will always give you an edge when you execute well. Hardest thing to maintain while being aggressive for me is visual focus and patience while squeezing the trigger.
Managed to pickup the W at the local monthly GPA match today. 105 shooters came out. Really loving GPA!
Finger banging!!
While training today I messed around on the multigun stage setup in my bay.
There was 10 pieces of steel on the stage and I wanted to see just how fast they could be shot.
My first attempt I missed the planned yet unnecessary reload (I added it just to force myself to reload aggressively and not lose time moving to the next position.) plus a few extra shots for not taking my time (impatient tax) that first run was 15.69. After that I felt the stage could be ran in 13 seconds clean so I kept working at it.
Ironically, the next 5 runs were worse lol. But that was actually not a bad thing. The penalties were chipping away at bad habits and fundamentals I was taking for granted.
Finally nailed it and I was pleasantly surprised at a sub 12 second run. I did all this with my IDP-Ghey vest on as well since I have an IDPA major coming up soon. So w/o the reload or fishing garment I’m sure more time could be saved.
It was great to see that no matter how much effort or how much you try to force yourself to do better and/or try harder, in the end, good solid fundamentals, a simple and strongly visualized and memorized stage plan and last but not least, not forcing the action (creating excessive muscle tension and not shooting subconsciously) will yield an excellent result.
My attempts ranged from sub 12 to above 18 seconds. That’s over 6 seconds. Easy to lose or better yet, easy to win if I just follow a proven process consistently.
