Horse Training and Horse Back Riding Lessons

10/10/2025

It’s been a busy week here teaching clinics. This was the second mini clinic in our Preparing the Horse and Rider for the Lead Change clinic and everyone made great progress! We’re focusing on balancing the horse and rider while creating strength and power though the hind end in order to build the pieces we need to put together for a flying lead change.
I’ve been continuing and focusing on my lesson program over the last year and I have forgotten how much I enjoy teaching clinics. This series has been particularly fun and I would love to repeat it again!
Additionally, these were the first clinics in our new arena and it’s been fabulous. The footing is great and it’s a little more space than our other arena.

It was a great pleasure to teach the Lonestar Ranch Riding Club chapter of Pony Club last weekend! Bringing ranch trail to newbies and English riders is always fun. Everyone was introduced to new obstacles and all the horses and ponies conquered the scary bridge!

This story is too good not share! One of my favorite grey haired clients wisely decided this cow horse was too much horse for her in her golden years. The horse himself is also getting on in years but still has plenty of cow in him. After some false starts and some heart ache, we realized fate had a bigger plan for him. With help from Casey Hildalgo, we found the perfect place for him with my friend and mentor Earnest Wilson. Earnest has given so much to the stock horse community and has been a huge help and inspiration to me, I am overjoyed to be able to be able to give something back to him.
But wait…the story gets better…as Earnest and Casey were driving back to Tolar from picking up the horse at my place, Earnest looked at the papers and realized that he had trained and shown the FULL BROTHER to this horse!

We welcomed Karen’s ride, Whiskey, to mid October, less than two weeks before the 2022 SHTX World Show and Derby. Thanks to Karen’s faith in me and her positive no pressure attitude, after just a handful of rides I rode Whiskey to a fifth place finish in the derby. Now I can’t wait to see what Karen and Whiskey do this year! Special thanks to Troy Koehl for helping bring these two together!

October 2022, A week before Mac’s 13th birthday, Mac won his first trophy saddle, making this mama feel both so proud and old at the same time! Since his first buckle win in June, his goal was a saddle. I could see it in his eyes when we left that morning that he was determined that today would be that day.
