There’s a reason running and shooting has been part of training in elite military units for decades. Recent operations, including the Delta Force raid in Venezuela, are a reminder of how physical these missions can be. Operators may have to move quickly, cover distance, and still be capable of making good decisions and delivering accurate fire.

All we’re doing with a drill like this is adding another stimulus.

A hard sprint elevates heart rate and respiration and creates physical fatigue before the shooting even begins. The shooter still has to control the weapon, process what they’re seeing, make decisions and remain accurate.

Shooting accurately while standing still and rested is one thing. Doing it immediately after a full sprint adds another variable to manage.

For those of you who train this way, what changes the most for you when you have to shoot immediately after hard physical exertion?

Pressure has a way of narrowing your world.

Your body tenses. Your vision closes in. Emotion starts influencing your decisions.

The goal isn't to become faster in that state. It's to learn how to regulate it.

Relax. Let your vision open up. See the bigger picture. Stay emotionally neutral and make the decision that moves you toward the outcome you actually want.

Because when your mind and body are working together, things get smoother.

And when they get smoother, they get faster.

Train your response to pressure. Perform better everywhere.

Most people think the goal is to stop feeling stress.

It isn't.

The goal is to recognize what's happening, understand what your body is telling you, and make better decisions anyway.

Your heart rate rises.
Your breathing changes.
Your palms get sweaty.

None of those things mean you're failing.

They're information.

The people who perform under pressure aren't emotionless. They simply don't let their emotions make decisions for them.

That's what we train.

Mercury Human Performance develops the cognitive, physical, and emotional skills required to perform under pressure. Shooting is simply how we measure the results.

What does your body tell you when you're under pressure?

What if the lessons learned in the SEAL Teams could help you become a better leader, parent, business owner, or teammate?

The transition from military service to civilian life taught Nick that the real value wasn’t just tactical skills. It was learning how to build processes, stay composed under pressure, and make good decisions when conditions aren’t ideal.

That’s the philosophy behind Mercury Human Performance.

We don’t train people to become Navy SEALs.

We train the cognitive, physical, and emotional skills that help you perform under pressure, whether you’re in the boardroom, at home, or facing life’s unexpected challenges.

Because pressure doesn’t care what profession you’re in.

Performance is what matters.

Most people think they come to Mercury Human Performance to improve their shooting.

What they quickly discover is that shooting is only part of the experience.

At MHP, we develop the cognitive, physical, and emotional skills required to perform under pressure. Through expert coaching, objective feedback, and a community committed to growth, you’ll learn to think more clearly, regulate your emotions, and make better decisions when it matters most.

As RJ puts it, the lessons don’t stop at the range. They carry over into your career, your relationships, and everyday life.
Because Human Performance isn’t about becoming a better shooter.

It’s about becoming a better performer.
