In December of 2022, as part of the Astronomy in Chile Educator Ambassador Program, I had the opportunity to visit the Rubin Observatory. Sitting atop Cerro Pachón in the Coquimbo Region of northern Chile, the observatory houses the 8.4 meter Simonyi Survey Telescope. Outfitted with the world's largest digital camera (3.2-giga pixels). Named for American astronomer Vera C. Rubin, renowned for her groundbreaking research in galaxy rotation and dark matter, this observatory will conduct a 10 year Legacy Survey of Space and Time of the southern sky.

En diciembre de 2022, como parte del Programa de Embajadores Educadores de Astronomía en Chile, tuve la oportunidad de visitar el Observatorio Rubin. Ubicado en la cima del Cerro Pachón, en la Región de Coquimbo, al norte de Chile, el observatorio alberga el Telescopio de Rastreo Simonyi de 8,4 metros. Equipado con la cámara digital más grande del mundo (3,2 gigapíxeles). Bautizado con el nombre de la astrónoma estadounidense Vera C. Rubin, reconocida por su investigación pionera en la rotación de galaxias y la materia oscura, este observatorio realizará un Estudio Legado del Espacio y el Tiempo del cielo austral, que durará 10 años.

I finally got my eyes on Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) tonight and did a little improper outreach to boot.

In between talks at the American Astronomical Society Summer Meeting I was usually down in the exhibition hall talking with folks, collecting awesome swag, and soaking up knowledge. I had the pleasure of connecting with representatives from Slooh, the Roman Space Telescope, the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), the US Extremely Large Telescope Program, and Associated Universities, Inc. (AUI). There were dozens of amazing iPosters on display and I tried to visit as many as I could. The American Astronomical Society Summer Meeting was jam packed full of amazing talks and panels. Some highlights were presentations from the recipients of the Jay M. Pasachoff Solar Eclipse Mini-Grant Program, the Meeting-in-a-Meeting Sessions on Community Models of Astronomy, the Plenary Lecture on Dark and Quiet Skies for the Future of Astronomy and the Space Environment, and the session on Lessons Learned from Plans and Preparations for the 2017-2024 Solar Eclipses. I had the pleasure of presenting on behalf of the LightSound Project during a Special Session, First Look at Citizen Science from the 8 April 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. I also took part in my first Press Conference, also on behalf of the LightSound Project, on Citizen Science from the 2023/2024 Solar Eclipses. La reunión de verano de la Sociedad Astronómica Estadounidense estuvo repleta de charlas y paneles increíbles. Algunos aspectos destacados fueron las presentaciones de los beneficiarios del Programa de minisubvenciones para eclipses solares de Jay M. It has been a whirlwind week at the American Astronomical Society Summer Meeting! I presented and press conferenced, cavorted with colleagues old and new, saw many sites, and sampled the local fare.

There are too many photos to post, so for now I will leave you with one of my favorites. Rejoicing with the incomparable Dr Kate Russo, following the completion of our official AAS Summer Meeting obligations.
