One thing I’ve learned over the years of owning Body by Phil is that kindness should never be mistaken for weakness.
I do my best to be patient, accommodating, respectful, and understanding with every person who walks through my doors. I genuinely care about my clients and work hard to create an environment where people feel supported, encouraged, and welcomed.
Unfortunately, there are some people who choose to focus on negativity no matter how much effort is made to help them. They complain constantly, criticize behind the scenes, and sometimes even speak poorly about me and my business when I’m not around.
What many don’t realize is that those conversations almost always find their way back to me.
I’m not angry. I’m not looking for sympathy. But I am disappointed.
Body by Phil was built on positivity, accountability, respect, and personal growth. Those values are not negotiable. While I will always go out of my way to help someone succeed, I will not allow a handful of negative individuals to poison the experience for everyone else.
As a business owner, one of my responsibilities is protecting the culture of this gym. If someone’s attitude, behavior, or constant negativity begins affecting the people around them, I have no problem removing that person from the environment.
That isn’t shame on me.
That’s accountability for them.
The overwhelming majority of my clients are incredible people who support one another, encourage one another, and make Body by Phil a special place. They deserve an atmosphere free from drama, gossip, and unnecessary negativity.
My door is always open to honest conversations. If there’s a problem, talk to me. If there’s a concern, bring it to me. Respect goes both ways.
At the end of the day, I will continue treating people with kindness and respect. But I will also continue protecting the positive culture we’ve worked so hard to build.
No apologies for that.
