When dealing with musculoskeletal health problems and dealing with common aches and pains what we must understand it is usually not one thing, since we are a system of systems that work in an integrated fashion.

Here are some of the things you should consider taking inventory of on how you are doing and what areas you might need to improve in your current lifestyle to improve your musculoskeletal health:

1. Getting Enough Quality Sleep

2. Joint Mobility (Especially in the big movement rocks of the foot/ankle, hip and T-spine)

3. Healthy Nutrition Practices

4. Joint Stability

5. Mindset and Mental Health

6. Movement Practice - Variability, Quality and Quantity

7. Frequent Positions and Postures You Spend Your Time

8. Total Body Strength

9. Breathe Work

10. Walking Regularly

How are you doing in these areas?

I would love to see your comments below.

Do you have aches & pains that are always bothering you but you can’t seem to get rid of them?

Have repetitive tasks at work caused joint and muscle issues that cause everyday pain now?

Have you been to loads of other doctors & specialists that only treat the symptoms but can’t get rid of the pain?

Are you recovering from a past surgery or injury, but don't know what you should be focusing on right now?

I really feel for you. The pain you’re suffering with isn’t necessary. I’ve seen so many clients over the last 26 years needlessly suffer because of improper advice or being medicated for the symptoms.

The biggest challenges I’ve seen from individuals suffering from long-term pain are:

- Not being given the right workspace or tools at their job which causes and exacerbates aches and pains

- Doctors treating the symptoms be never dealing with the root cause, which leads you to more pain and suffering down the road

- Being told there’s nothing that can be done and you just have to live with this forever

I’ve dedicated my life to helping people just like you that suffer from joint and muscle pain by:

- Showing you how to create environments that facilitate musculoskeletal health which minimizes and gets rid of the pain

- Improve your movement quality & quantity in your life

- Treat the root cause so that you can get rid of most, if not all, pain medication

If the above describes you, then you may be in need of an remote ergonomic assessment and movement snacks program.

This Program Includes:

* Review health history and musculoskeletal complaints

* Remote ergonomic assessment of your workstation

* Ergonomic recommendations based on assessment

* Movement snack program to help individual wipeout the musculoskeletal issues that individual is dealing with during the day.

I have been receiving a lot of questions of late regarding return 2 paly programs for both adult and youth athletes, so I thought I would share how I develop and deliver these types of programs remotely with clients.

Some of the individuals who have reached out to be of late have included:

· Female basketball players who have torn their ACL

· Golfers with lower back pain

· Pickleball players with elbow, wrist, knee, low back and foot/ankle pain (This is now one of the fastest growing segments of injury in the US)

· Swimmers with shoulder pain

· Runners with knee pain

· Basketball players with ankle sprains

· ETC....

Basically my Return 2 Play Programs are for the active youth or adult athlete that is trying to overcome, prevent or continue to rehabilitate an injury, so that you can return to performing the game you love at the level you desire.

All my programs are customized and due not use protocols, that frankly don't work for the majority of individuals, because they are not based specifically on your needs or goals.

Here is basically an overview of how all my Return 2 Play Programs work.

Return 2 Play Programs Overview

· A free remote consultation to learn more about your, you goals, your health history and discuss the best programming options for you.

· A 3D biomechanical assessment will be preformed to assess fundamental movements, sport specific movements, posture, joint mobility and joint stability to help determine the main areas that need to be addressed in the body.

· A customized Return 2 Play Program based on the results of your assessment to address: Fundamental movement limitations, soft tissue quality, posture, joint mobility/stability, functional strength, power, endurance or other needs.

Let me share some strategies on how you can look to implement movement snacks.

1.) Movement Snacks Utilize the Concept of Micro-Dosing

Micro-dosing is arranging small bouts of intermittent movements and try to pepper them in through out the day, with each movement snack having a specific purpose and outcome.

So if we think about our daily structure we would want to put together a series of movement snacks during these specific times of the day, with each time of day having specific needs:

- Pre-Work

- During Work

- Post-Work

Obviously, the specific nature of your work would dictate what types of movement snacks we would need to develop for each area.

2.) Implement a Movement Snack Every 30-60 min

Research is very clear in that breaking up sedentary behavior frequently throughout the day is one of the best things you can do for long-term health, by moving more frequently during the day.

I get it, every job is different and why we need different approaches based on need, but this is a good frame of reference.

3.) Movement Snacks Can Be 2-5 min or longer

This is where you can become more creative based on your specific needs and work environment, hence the varied time frame above.

I like to see a minimum dose of 2 min to affect some change and upwards to potentially 10 minutes based on your needs and time availability, but big changes can be made in small time frames.

That's why these can be so effective because you can make them fit your needs and environment.

4.) Focus on Your Specific Needs

This is where you will start to individualize your movement snacks and we can start with these two main areas:

- Your Body Needs:

What areas of your body feel stiff or achy?

What movements do you do during the day?

What movements don't you do during the day?

- Your Environmental Needs:

What positions do you find yourself in most of the day?

What type of work environment do you work? (Office, production, drive, etc.)

How long do you perform various task?

5.) Movement Snacking is Designed for Movement Variability

It is very clear the majority of us don't move enough and when we do move or exercise, we don't move enough in all the ways our bodies need to maintain our health and vitality.

All bodies are built to move, but we must make sure we are addressing all the important movement components, such as fascia, muscles, nerves, joints, bones, brain, breath, etc. The great thing is movement snacks are designed to address all these.

6.) Movement Snacking Utilizes Matrices

A matrix is a logical sequencing of movement that factors in the 3-dimensional nature of the body, so we ensure we are targeting everything we are after with a particular movement snack.

Think of these like little circuits, not randomly thrown together exercises like most fitness versions, but each one has a specific purpose and outcome associated with it's development.

Why Is Movement Snacking Essential To Health and Performance!

I had the pleasure to present on Thursday last week at the 2023 Indiana Wellness Summit on Movement Snacking and I had a great turn out for my session.

Let me share with you 4 of the points I shared with the attendees in my session on Why Movement Snacking is Essential to Health and Performance?

1.) Sitting Up to 12 Hours or More Per Day

Let's face it we sit and are inactive way too much! Sitting isn't necessarily bad and is essential at times, it's just that we spend too much time in this position and being inactive that is the real health concern.

Sitting for extended periods of time is literally an orthopedic and health disaster, since you can link almost every orthopedic issue and chronic health condition to the excessive amounts of sitting we do in our culture.

2.) Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs)

MSDs affect 1 in 2 people and cost our health system around $ 420 billion annually, which happens to be more then any other chronic condition.

When your body isn't successful doing something it will often get injured due to the fact it doesn't possess the capability. The human body will always self organize and compensate in order to find a way to get the job done.

3.) Ergonomics

This for sure has it's place and I have a couple of certifications in Ergonomics, but the concept is often misguided with it's focus on specific positioning.

Modern ergonomics is not the science about what is best for the body, but is the scientific pursuit of how the human body can be positioned for extended periods of time for the purpose of production and not health (the body is not meant to be positioned at 90 degree angles for long) periods of time.

4.) Health vs. Fitness

These are definitely not one in the same, though many preach that is the case even though the data has been very clear for some time that fitness does not equal health.

Numerous studies have shown the regardless of exercise we face the same sedentary health risk factors, because exercise is not enough to offset all the inactivity or what is now called Active Sedentary.

The majority of people are cancelling out all the good their workouts could be doing by being inactive most of the day.

So as you can see, movement snacking is just not an option any longer in our society and needs to be an essential part of your daily routine.

Movement snacks are specifically designed to counter the effects of repetitive movement and our lack of movement during the day.

Movement snacks are specifically designed to sprinkle in intermittent movement throughout your day to:

-Improve movement quantity and quality

-Increase total body and joint mobility and stability

-Improve movement variability

-Promote circulation

-Release powerful feel good hormones

-Improve mood, energy levels, concentration, production and creativity

-Decrease inflammation

If you would like to learn more about Movement Snacking and how to implement this system, please feel free to DM me :)

How is your body feeling today?

Any areas that are feeling stiff?

Have you been dealing with aches or pains or even injuries?

As humans we are all creatures of habit, often to our own detriment.

For the majority of us that means we are engaged in repetitive movements from work, sport, exercise or even sitting too much during the day.

These repetitive movements cause forces to various body structures, leading to dehydration, damage and trauma to various tissues in the body, which can lead to pain and injuries.

So how do we prevent these negative affects and possible prevent pain and injuries from occurring?

If you read my previous post or saw some of my social media post you know I am presenting at the 2023 Indiana Wellness Summit on Sept 14th hear in Indianapolis and I will be presenting on one area I utilize with clients to accomplish just that - Movement Snacking!

I design these movement snacks to increase movement variability into an individuals day to help rehydrate and lubricate these overused tissues, as well as incorporate underutilized tissues during the day.

Performing a variety of simple movements before and after repetitive task helps with tissue recovery and building resiliency so the body is able to function optimally the next day and all the days that follow.

The addition of properly designed movement snacks into your days, weeks, and months might very well be the key to reducing injuries and health problems down the road.

If you are interested in learning more about how I design programs like this for individuals or entire companies, please direct message me.

I will be presenting at the 2023 Indiana Wellness Summit on Sept 14th.

I am will be presenting on a topic that will be covering a big part of what I use with clients to help:

- Improve musculoskeletal health
- Recover from injury or surgeries
- Improve their movement capacity
- Improve joint mobility and stability
- Reduce or eliminate aches and pains
- Improve productivity and energy levels
- Etc....

I will be talking about the concept of movement snacking, which is basically the use of the concept of micro-dosing movement during your day for specific purposes and outcomes that help with the above.

Movement snacking is a great way to sprinkle in a lot of different movement nutrients your body needs to maintain it's health and vitality, that a regular exercise program just doesn't address.

Excited to be presenting at this years 2023 Indiana Wellness Summit!
