History Minute: The Story Behind "Taps"

Most people recognize the haunting melody of "Taps," but few know how it began.
During the Civil War in 1862, Union General Daniel Butterfield felt the traditional bugle call signaling the end of the day was too harsh. Working with his brigade bugler, he created a softer, more peaceful tune.
What began as a simple signal for "lights out" quickly spread throughout the Army. Over time, those 24 notes became one of America's most recognizable tributes to those who served.
Today, "Taps" reminds us that while a veteran's service may come to an end, their sacrifice is never forgotten.
At MCVET, we honor that legacy by helping veterans build their next chapter with dignity, stability, and hope.

Happy August! ☀️
As summer begins to give way to fall, it's a reminder that growth often starts with release. For many veterans, the transition to civilian life means letting go of old routines, identities, and battles. 🇺🇸
At MCVET, we're honored to walk alongside them as they build what's next. 🩵
