Read Don Mohler's letter on the O's deal, Md. Matters, 12/23/23 with the skepticism it deserves. It is clear Don was NOT on the inside this time. It is true "our state needs firm leadership and consistent outreach." The direction of that leadership must be guided by wisdom, not ego.
Thank you Don, for imbedding some wisdom in your comments. "Real leaders listen." And for reminding Govenrnor Moore he, "pledged to honor a tradition of transparency and partnership." Let's hope his pledge to partnership is more than words.
Let's watch to see that pledge in practice.
The Moore-Miller Administration has NOT YET "proven that they will always keep the interests of Marylanders front-of-mind in everything they do." But, we are optomists and look forward to this change and to even better outcomes with less turmoil in the future.

Marylanders want commitment, investment, and good stewardship of public dollars. This lease agreement addresses each of these priorities.

What what worries me (and countless other Orioles fans) is that John Angelos will retain ownership of the club because it constitutes his only opportunity to be in charge of anything. As tone deaf as he is entitled, he cries poormouth despite being the occupant of a stadium built entirely with taxpa...

Winning the hearts and minds of a constitunecy must be more than a public relations stunt or the spinning of partial facts. Ardent supporters may fall for this, but sound minded citizens will see through shallow leaders like the smiling snake oil salesmen of old.
Highly successful leaders provide direction, implement plans, and motivate people. At the same time they must be intelligent, truthful, and driven by sound principals. They exhibit grace.
At the public signing of the Orioles Lease Extension, Governor Moore's staff seemed enthusiastically motivated. By what though? They fought behind the scenes against each measure that changed a bad MOU into a four year extention of the exsisting lease. It may lead to years beyond, but with further deliberation and under different terms.
The facts were spunand the rhetoric embellished, both at the lease signing and in the Governor's letter to the Sun. Some people still call this lying. “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.” Abraham Lincoln

In landmark Orioles lease deal, Gov. Wes Moore learned a key lesson
The real negotiations are just warming up. The critical piece John Angelos has fought for — the right to develop adjacent public lots and potentially mint money — will play out over the next four years.

A ballpark lease is signed. What’s next for the Orioles?
The lease keeps the Orioles in Baltimore for at least another 15 years, if not for decades. What comes next, though — beyond the relief of more games being played at Camden Yards — is still an open question.
