Sarah Eikrem Sarah Eikrem swam the Catalina Channel, 20 miles from Catalina Island to LA
She started at about 10:30pm in the pitch black Catalina water and finished 17 hours and 21 minutes later in LA
Sarah had an incredible crew made up of her coach Katie Pumphrey KATIE PUMPHREY and two Kayakers, Addie Green and Madison Feldman. Her boat was the Pacific Star which had two captains and deckhands, and two wonderful observers from the Catalina Swim Federation, Jill and Don.
Sarah says she really enjoyed swimming at night, and was disappointed she didn’t have a better sunrise but her crew kept her motivated by singing ABBA, cracking jokes, and hyping her up the whole way! Towards the end of the swim she was joined by a sea lion who swam along side her for about half an hour.
Sarah’s been swimming at Meadowbrook since fall 2021 and training for open water swims since summer 2022. Sarah shares that she has a phenomenal group of training buddies at the pool who make every training session a ball! Sarah says she’s lucky to find such a great spot to train, especially in shady lane 1 outside during her 5 hour training swims.
