If Cactus Rose left you wanting more, winter has two options waiting.

Bandera in January brings you back to the Hill Country. The Rocky Raccoon 50 in February runs through the piney woods around Huntsville, the same part of Texas Sam Houston once called home. (The 100 is sold out. The 50 is still taking names.)

Each one is built for a different kind of runner. No need to decide today.

Just know the door's open when you are 🚪 tejastrails.com has you covered.

Philip Arneson takes the win at Cactus Rose 🌹

He won the Cactus Rose 100 Mile in 22:43:55 on the rocky loops of Hill Country State Natural Area. He took control late in the race and pulled away for a commanding win. Four loops at Cactus Rose make for one of the toughest 100 milers in Texas, and Arneson handled them with style.

Congratulations Phillip🙌🏻

Field notes, Hill Country State Natural Area, Saturday:
Sunrise: observed. Limestone: unchanged. Sotol: undefeated. Runners: still going, which honestly surprised the sotol.

Folks are still out on course. Cheer for them in the comments, and watch Stories for the updates as we get them!

🌵🌹 is a real race all on its own, not a warm-up lap for something bigger. The Hill Country will make sure you know exactly how well you fueled.

That said, if Bandera is on your winter radar, Cactus Rose is a great training run for it. Same park, same rocks, and a smart place to test your self-supported strategy before January.

Two good reasons to sign up. Pick one, or keep both. Link below.

Texas Monthly Presents: The Story spent part of its “Adventure Time” episode in Bandera with our own Chris McWatters, talking about what makes Hill Country State Natural Area one of the wildest places left in Texas.

“Once someone gets going... it turns into just them and Mother Nature.”

The park was a family ranch, donated on the condition that it stay untouched. Forty-some years later, it still looks like nobody told it what decade it is.

It’s also home to Cactus Rose, running this Friday and Saturday.

Cactus Rose is a real race on its own, not just a warm-up lap for something bigger, even though the Hill Country terrain will happily remind you how adequately fueled you are on race morning.

If Bandera is on your winter radar, this is a smart place to test your self-supported strategy before January.

If you ask us, both are good reasons to sign up.

Recovery from Trailway should be underway by now. A little stretching, a lot of water, and maybe a nap that turns into three hours, because the Texas heat still hasn't checked the calendar. *Crosses fingers for the weekend forecast*

This is also the week we start talking Bandera training, because the trail doesn't wait for you to feel ready. 🦎
