Starting Monday, June 1st!

'Morning Vinyasa: A Summer Series' with Hannah
Dates: Mondays (June 1st- August 24th)
Time: 8:00 - 9:00 AM
Location: The Yoga Sangha Rooftop Studio
(at CapFit - N. Bulter & E. Washington)

During this Vinyasa Yoga series on Monday mornings, new and experienced yogis are welcome to get back to basics. Learn the sequences, breathing techniques & proper alignment while establishing a vinyasa yoga practice.

**PLEASE NOTE: arrive 5-10 MINUTES EARLY to settled onto your mat.

**If weather does not cooperate, we will practice in the Amethyst Studio (3rd floor).

What is Vinyasa yoga?

Commonly referred to as 'Flow Yoga,' vinyasa links physical movement with the breath. Asanas (poses) that create space and open the body happen on the inhale to allow for expansion. Asanas that bring the body to itself and close the spaces happen on the exhale to allow for contraction and a full release.

Vinyasa yoga can be practiced at any pace so long as the physical movement matches the breath. Find a spot or pose that feels good? Hold it, just not the breath.

As this class will be taking place on the rooftop, yogis should arrive 5-10 minutes early and come prepared with water and anything else they will need to be comfortable and safe while practicing.

See www.thesccollective.com/schedule for other regularly scheduled classes, workshops & events.

Wednesdays are a perfect day to restock the fresh produce and specialty items at the mid-week farmers market. Check out the one downtown on MLK Blvd. Wednesday mornings.

Can't find everything on the list? Check out the W***y St. Coop's produce and bulk sections at any of their locations around the city.

At times, whether on your mat or in your life, showing up can be the hardest part.
Let go of judgement.
Lean in to discomfort.
Exhale & release.

RIP friend, til we meet again.

Free time ≠ Available

It’s important to reserve time and space for nothing, for going with the flow, leaning into the stillness or chillness. Whatever you choose (or not), it’s ok to say ‘no, I’m not available.’

Your body will thank you and so will your mind.

Officially in the process of adding both Restorative Yoga and Yin Yoga to our schedule, and the excitement could not be higher.

A little more about these lovely styles:

- Restorative Yoga: A practice that is inherently supportive and restful, Restorative Yoga allows the body to stretch and find different shapes with the use of props, such as blocks (pictured), bolsters, straps, and other items. It is a deeply relaxing practice where a fair amount of work is still taking place. Although the body is supported, the muscles are learning the imprints from how the props are supporting them, helping the practitioner to find a deep, restful stretch that might otherwise not be obtained.

- Yin Yoga: At its core, this is a meditative approach to yoga, emphasizing passive stretching and aiming to cultivate a deeper internal awareness. Unlike its yang counterparts, which focus on muscle engagement and an energetic flow, Yin Yoga targets the deep connective tissues of the body such as the ligaments, joints, bones, and fascial networks. By holding poses for extended periods, typically between three to five minutes or even longer, practitioners are encouraged to tune into their bodies and minds, fostering a state of mindful stillness.

Always such lovely finds at the Dane County Farmers' Market.

Everyone surrounded by produce & floral bouquets; jarred honey, fresh eggs & Stella's Bakery cheese bread was a beautiful sight. Not to mention what a score for Mother's Day gift ideas - such awesome finds on State Street by local artists and vendors.

See ya next week!

If you’ve been in a Surya Chandra Yoga class before, and it wasn’t a restorative style class, there is a 97% chance you’ve been guided into ‘paripurna navasana’ (aka Boat Pose).

Coming just after our balance challenge and just before the cool-down, taking some time and moving into navasana is great for strengthening the core (and the entire body) as well as continued balance and mental focus.

But the real reason this is such a staple for SCY classes: it allows yogis to personalize their asana and really watch their own growth, class by class.

Noticing similarities and differences as the move in and of position, feeling the body get stronger each time with each second held, navasana offers more than abs, it offers accountability and gratification for continually showing up.

Just ask the Surya Chandra Yogis, they love the boat pose!
