Side note: Can I also just say how much I love Beth - public speaking is probably her least favorite activity and she did it! 💙

Today at our Rotary meeting, we welcomed Beth Martin from the Northeast Kingdom Equine Expo!
Beth shared how the Equine Expo brings together horse owners, clinicians, vendors, equine professionals, and enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels while creating an impact that reaches well beyond the fairgrounds.
Visitors and professionals coming to the Northeast Kingdom stay in local lodging, eat and shop locally, and support businesses throughout our rural communities. It’s a great example of how a local event can bring people together while strengthening our region at the same time.

🐴 2027 NEK EQUINE EXPO PLANNING HAS BEGUN… AND WE NEED YOUR VOTE! 🐴

One of the biggest questions on our planning board right now is what we should put in the spotlight on Sunday!

Last year, we had our Ranch Trail Challenge hosted by Mare Necessities Hoofcare — now for 2027, we want to know what you want to see (or better yet… participate in 👀).

I first met Lexi and Vegas at my clinic. They came in with a bucking problem at the canter, and Vegas was pretty fussy with her head on top of it. After the clinic, and before our first lesson I watched some video of them competing and noticed she was counter cantering and cross firing quite a bit, and the bucking was happening mostly when she was trying to sort out her feet or when Lexi came out of the saddle pushing her forward toward home.

So we started there. A couple of small equitation adjustments, balance and body awareness for both of them, and some exercises to work on between lessons. By the next gymkhana there was no bucking, and Lexi shaved a couple of seconds off one of her patterns.

It's been a good reminder of how much tiny changes can ripple through everything. Vegas is so much quieter with her head now too, and the two of them just keep getting more confident together.

This weekend Lexi and Vegas won their division, day end champion and year end champion. Lexi has put in the work, and it really shows. Congratulations you two, this one was earned.

It's a good reminder that the small things matter more than we think. A seat bone, where your toes are pointing, even something as simple as a breath. The details add up, and horses feel every one of them. That last one has been on my mind a lot lately. As promised, I'll be talking more about breathing and its influence on your body soon.
