Skylake Yosemite Camp

Comments

Dear Skylake, Please send me Info for 13 year old Camper in 2019. Thanks, John M. Heyman
Hoping for some Session D Photos!
Gang of 4 out of SF. In beast mode & ready to bring it as Session D begins 😎.
With closing day for Session C coming up on Saturday, it's a good time to post a letter that was given to me by a parent on Closing Day in 1999 when I was the Program Director: "It's about 6:00 AM as I sit here at Rocky Point looking at the lake as the morning light softly fills the valley. It has been some 26 years since I have last been up here. I wonder in my heart at the special feelings I have about retrieving my oldest daughter from her first Skylake experience. Knowing that we now will always share a beautiful secret together. Now two of us will carry a special magic inside. Skylake magic. Sending her here has been one of the most satisfying things for me I have ever felt as a father. Will that Skylake magic call to her each summer the way it did to me so many years in a row when I was her age? I feel it calling to me even now, so many years later, as I
anxiously wait for that eleventh hour when I can see and experience camp again. Will she have changed? A little more grown up, a little more independent, her life more enriched? Reveille, hopper call, what a ball. Thanks Skylake."

For anyone who has heard, "I Love This Place!" yelled at the top of their lungs...Teall Harkey was the original Skylaker who belted it out at flag raising. Teall is a former camper and staff member and much loved by the Skylake community and well beyond. "To know Teall is to love Teall." He's a truly special human being who needs all the love and support we can send his way right now. We love you Teall and we know you can beat this!

Explaining Skylake Magic | Skylake Yosemite Camp Is it possible to put Skylake Magic into words? Though the magic may vary from person to person, at the roots it’s likely the same. After decades of experience at Skylake, starting at the age of 9 and working through college years on staff and then a Director and parent, I think I finally might be...

Good morning! Yesterday brought some good news for Skylake. The evacuation order has been lifted for our area. Though the fire is far from fully contained and much is still at stake for many people and the wilderness, Skylake and our surrounding area have been spared. We are cautiously optimistic. Jeff is heading back to camp today to secure the property. We are excited to get back into very focused planning for summer 2021!

09/11/2020

Fire update: The Sierra National Forest Creek Fire live update last night was encouraging. The fire is now 6% contained! These fire fighters and their technique to fight this fire are amazing. We aren't free and clear yet, but things are looking better. We continue to hope and prey for the best for Skylake and so many others affected by fires right now. Thank you for your continued messages of hope, we appreciate and love hearing from you.

09/09/2020

We wanted to update our Skylake friends and family on the Creek Fire. The fire situation for Skylake is precarious. The Creek Fire is now over 160,000 acres and there is zero containment. The fire has spread over an area 30 miles long and 20 miles wide. Bass Lake is currently about 7 miles from the fire perimeter. We appreciate all of the calls and emails of support. The Bass Lake basin, and all of the surrounding area south and east are under mandatory evacuation. We left camp on Monday night after turning off all the propane. It is not possible to return to camp at this time. We watch along with all of you the fires progress. Our thoughts are constantly with the firefighters dealing with this tragedy as well as all over California and Oregon. A good source we have found on the Creek Fire is on abc30.com as well as Fresno and Madera County Sheriff pages. Nightly updates on the fire are airing at 7pm PST. Keep the positive vibes and thoughts coming.

We hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! We sure do miss our campers this summer!

Skylake is a camp kids look forward to returning to year after year.
