The team quickly made an impact on the late model racing circuit throughout Virginia and the Carolinas through their on-track success. Nelson Motorsports is now widely recognized as one of the top race teams in all of late model racing. What began as a one-car experiment with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Timothy Peters, quickly transformed into a multi-car operation. With multiple prestigious wins, points championships, and Virginia Triple Crown titles, the success speaks for itself. Throughout the years the team has fielded many fantastic drivers. Timothy Peters helped build the foundation by winning numerous prestigious races and titles. Bobby McCarty joined the team in 2016 and has carried the team to new heights by winning 3 CARS Tour Championships and currently holds the Virginia Triple Crown trophy. The team has also worked with drivers like Sammy Smith and Ty Gibbs who are both now competing nationally in NASCAR. In 2022, Kaden Honeycutt joins the team who was the 2021 CARS Tour Rookie of the Year. At only 18 years old Kayden is considered one of the top up and coming drivers in racing.
