So the flounder derby is over! We had lots of happy customers...pretty certain everyone got their flounder. Now the focus is back on to the big drum bite...and the big mackerel bite!
Spanish are all over the river from the sound literally to Washington. These fish move in large groups and pretty much school by size. If you keep catching small fish..move on and find a better class....seen some really nice catches lately! They are great fried/grilled/blackened.....tonight we even made cevechie out of some pretty spanish...it was delicious!
Creek and the riverfront holding small trout and mixed drum....bulls to puppies! Fall is here...bait is moving...time to burn up some of that PTO you are holding onto for a special occasion....time to fish is here!

What a crazy week this has been!
First of all...we are humbled with all the post likes and views from Sunday's post. 700+ likes and 200k+ views....I dont know what that means...but it seems like a lot!!
This week has been amazing. We have had just the most wonderful time chasing this sight casting bite all week. We have seen just hundreds of drum...presented baits to them...watched the fish just inhale the bait..double and triple hookups. Felt like we have been fishing in an aquarium! Spanish bite has been hot as well....no trolling for us..all sight casting to schools of roving fish. Lots of barely legal fish with the occasional really nice mackerel mixed in.
Today we hunted the sight casting bite under beautiful conditions . We saw lots of single fish..one pod..and one pair....with no bites. Thats OK because we know chasing this type of bite is a "Hero or Zero" game. Hey...no risk..no reward!
With that being said spanish/trout/flounder/puppy drum and popping cork/bait fishing fir old drum....all are good right now!
We have had a great customer turnout this week and weekend so far...and again very thankful for this.

Well..how is this for a fishing report?
Left out this morning to chase a hot mackerel bite at the mouth of the river. Once I hit the North Creek markers there were macks everywhere. Wife and I put out three rods and began catching three at a time. So many macks that I swabbed bloody decks twice! Then in the melee a sea of gold erupted and we sight casted until exhausted. Still on the water ...forearms exhausted..hardley a boat in sight..just me and my beautiful wife. Ladies and Gents...its time to fish! Plan Accordingly!

This young man has been coming for quite some time chasing and harassing our drum...and he has gotten pretty good at it! Same body of fish from last week(at least same location) sight casted under working birds...Nice Job Colin..thank you for sharing the pics !

Haven't posted a report in a while.
Fishing has really seemed to pick up this week. Nice catches of slot drum coming back to the dock. Nice to see them as puppy drum fishing locally has been a little slow this year so far.
Big Drum bite has been consistent for a while now...but this cooler weather and breeze has them in another gear! Many reports of double digit landings. I personally witnessed two schools on the surface today while tarpon fishing...cool to see those big drum tearing up the water! Tarpon are here...and acting like tarpon. Have seen some nice quality trout coming back to the dock....should only get better I would think. While I have not seen any spanish....I did see some big schools of glass minnows...that means those macks cannot be far behind.
I think the summer doldrums of fishing are behind us....

All of this weeks ramp passes that were to be sent by mail hit the post office this afternoon. I still have a few left Thank you for your support!

NOTICE: Starting Sept 1st 2026 our Boat Ramp Fee will be increasing to $10.00 per launch.
Reminder: Your boat launch fee covers your launch/retrieveal during a 24hr period. Outside of this period will require payment to use the facility.

This increase comes after great consideration. When we built the first ramp here in 1983.there was no other access in the area at alll....the cost to use the ramp was $2.00.
Somewhere around 1988 we made the decision to move the cost up to $3.00 per launch. Roughly around 1993 the decision was made to move the cost up to $5.00....where the price has remained until today. We have done a good job holding the line for all of these years..but inflationary costs/times require us to get back in line with the rest of the world and will move to $10.00 9/1/2026.
As always...you still have the option to pay via the honor box..pay via our cashapp....or I have a limited amount of 2026 stickers/ramp passes that I will sell for $100.00 that will cover you for the remainder of the 2026 boating season to eliminate your need to pay per use.

Good Morning!
Hope everyone is ready for a HOTTT 4th of July Weekend.
Had this beautiful 40ft CC with quads launch this morning. Posting the photos as we are very happy with the opportunity for business...but also to show off the capabilities of the ramp. I watched a 25ft Pilot House boat yesterday pull up to the ramp and they appeared unsure if their boat would fit in the ramp and they ultimately left...hopefully this answers the question..answer is yes...all day long. The state of North Carolina has spent $3 million dollars (and counting) on two engineered boat ramps within a 15min drive in multiple directions around us.....and cannot create a product yet that will handle a large boat with ease.

One of our frequent charter captains Capt Kyle Elliot led his fisherman to the the current World Record Fly Caught Red Drum! What an accomplishment!
While I have nothing to do with this achievement...I have watched Capt Elliot grind over the years..producing fish in places I thought impossible! What a honest /humble person..and I cannot tell you how proud of him we are and his accomplishment! And for a side note..everyone gets in a bind over fisheries politics...yet every World Record Red Drum since the beginning of time has come from NC....we have a very special fishery here...and like it or not...it just works.
