Before their first game of the season, our boys’ varsity basketball team had the privilege of hearing from Coach Michael Howard, who brings over 40 years of coaching experience at both the college and high school levels — including time with the U.S. Women’s gold medal–winning Olympic Basketball Team under coach Pat Summitt.
With more than 340 career wins, Coach Howard and his son Josh Howard (who played NCAA Division I basketball at Northwestern University) shared how basketball, like life, is about choices — and how real success comes from being strong physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. They reminded our student athletes how special it is to be at an Adventist school where all four of those areas are developed together.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. —
On Tuesday, February 25, inside the Battle Creek Academy gymnasium, Sofia Keller made history by becoming the first-ever student-athlete in the city of Battle Creek to surpass 1,600 career points, achieving the milestone in her 104th varsity basketball game.
The previous all-time scoring record of 1,565 points was held by Lakeview High School standout Brazyll Watkins, who went on to play collegiate basketball at Albion College and Alabama State University (https://shorturl.at/PY1VI).
Keller, who will be a senior next school year, is currently being recruited by Andrews University as a member of the Class of 2026.
Congratulations to Sofia on this historic accomplishment — and for consistently striving for excellence in character, faith, and leadership both on and off the court!
