Stiff? Tight?
You don't become more flexible by accident after menopause. You have to train your connective tissue just like you train your muscles.

For a menopausal woman who is already doing CrossFit/Strength Training 3–5 days per week, I think Yin Yoga is one of the highest-return additions she can make—not because it burns calories, but because it addresses many of the adaptations that strength training doesn't.

Here's how I'd think about it:

Minimum effective dose: 1 session per week (60 minutes)

This is enough to:

Maintain connective tissue mobility
Reduce accumulated stiffness
Improve recovery from lifting
Begin calming the nervous system

It's far better than none, but you'll notice the effects wearing off after several days.

Ideal: 2 sessions per week

This is my favorite recommendation.

For example:

Wednesday (between heavier training days)
Sunday (before the new training week)

This provides:

Better fascial hydration
Healthier joints
Lower stress hormone load
Better sleep
Less "morning stiffness"

This schedule fits beautifully with a CrossFit/Strength Training program.

Optimal for women struggling with symptoms: 3–5 shorter sessions

These don't all need to be classes.

One 60-minute class plus two or three 15–20 minute home sessions is incredibly effective.

Especially if someone has:

Frozen shoulders
Hip stiffness
Plantar fasciitis
Low back tightness
Poor sleep
High stress
Frequent hot flashes

Consistency matters much more than duration.

Why menopause changes the equation

When estrogen declines:

Collagen production decreases.
Hyaluronic acid declines, so fascia and joints lose water.
Recovery slows.
Tendons become less elastic.
Cortisol has a bigger physiological impact.

CrossFit/Strength Training places healthy stress on muscle and bone—which is exactly what menopausal women need. But it also places repeated load on tendons, fascia, and joints.

Think of it this way:

Strength Training tells your body, "Build." 💪

Yin Yoga tells your body, "Recover. Hydrate. Restore." 🩷

The two aren't competitors—they're partners.

Oopsy daisy. I had a bad July at the gym - only 11 visits - no charm for me - and that reminds me of what I have had to tell myself many times over the past 8 years: it's okay.

Does it happen to you, too? It's ok. This is the gym that gets it - every time.

Almost nobody joins Betty's Box because life is easy.

You join because you want to feel stronger. Healthier. More energetic. More confident. And man - it works~! You want to be able to keep up with your kids or grandkids, travel without limitations, and build a body that serves you well for decades to come.

Then... summer happens.

Vacations. Company. Ball games. Long weekends. Life.

If your routine slipped, congratulations—you are officially human.

One week away doesn't matter.
Even one month doesn't define you.

THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

Don't make the mistake of believing you have to "get back in shape" before you come back. That's what we're here for.

The strongest women I know aren't the ones who never miss a workout.

They're the ones who always come back.

As summer winds down, we are here to help you rebuild your rhythm. No guilt. No lectures. No trying to make up for lost time. This is not something you do for a little while and quit. This is the life you are living and this is the body you are living it in. Let's take care of it together.

Just come walk through the door.

We'll take it from there.

❤️ Sheila

Some of the strongest moments at Betty's Box don't happen inside the gym.
This weekend we traded barbells for kayaks, workouts for water, and reps for laughter. 💕🛶
Because fitness isn't just about getting stronger—it's about building a life you love with people who make it even better.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. Here's to saying "yes" to adventure, trying new things, and making memories together.
