MSA is officially closed for business. The last dance. It didn’t really hit me until I started seeing the floor of the warehouse bare with no turf. It’s a stark reminder that I was crazy for thinking I could take the vision in my head and make it real. But I did. I’ll never forget sitting in the office at the old facility after we accepted the lease for an 18,000 sqft facility with nothing but faith in the game pushing us to move forward. Myself, and thinking we could do it. I really can’t put into words how thankful I am for the two of them. This never would have lasted as long as it did if I hadn’t chosen to staff two guys with passion, integrity and a killer work ethic to boot. 11 years in Baytown never would have happened.
We went from 1 baseball team to 3 to 13. That’s an impossible task without a community who believes in you. Baytown took care of us. They loved us. They made it possible for us to thrive. The facility was so big that we couldn’t do it with just Baseball and that didn’t matter. Whatever program we ran in that facility. People wanted to be a part of it. We established relationships with people by name and over the years even when they left, and their kids moved up and moved on, when I’d see them around town they remembered us and you could tell how much we meant to them.
We changed locations in 2018. We were no longer the big Mo. We had to downsize and outgrew the new facility in two months, even though the new facility was 60% smaller, the feeling felt the same. Coach Romo and .coach.mike reminded me what it was like to have the best coaches around and to have families keep trusting us with the future of their kids. The seasons would turn and people kept showing up wanting to be a part of MSA. I would be blown away every time we ran a tryout, great kids, and great families kept showing up for us every year.
Tomas, Andrew, Romo, Mike, and the MSA fam, I’m always going to owe you gratitude for contributing some of the best years of my life. I’ll probably end up back in Baseball at some point, but it’ll never be the same. We had one shot at this and we nailed it. Thank you all!
