DAILY REPORT (9/17/2026) by Jingles

It’s a beautiful, sunny, warm morning here in Beach Haven today! The wind right now is coming from the SSW at about 9mph. Currently the surf is calm with 1-2 foot waves. You will need about 3-4oz to hold. Beach Haven water temp is about 72°. The air temp is currently 76° and heading to 80°.

The bay is calm and 71.8°.

Low tide is at 6:20AM and 7:18PM. High tide is at 12:36AM and 1:01PM.

The craziness of the summer is over and we got a few days away so now we are ready for the fall run to start. But before that we DO still have ONE more week of fluke fishing until end of day Friday, Sept 25.

The 72rd Annual LBI Surf Fishing Classic started at the end of August and we are seeing many fluke, kingfish and small bluefish weigh-ins. You can win money and prizes on fluke, kingfish, weakfish, red drum, tautog, striped bass and bluefish so don’t wait for the fall fun – Register online at www.lbisfc.com or instore at Jingles Bait & Tackle, Surf City Bait & Tackle or Fisherman’s HQ. This week, Pat Conti weighed in a bluefish at 1.65 # and 16.5″ caught on a lure and Pat Gallen had a kingfish at .7 # and 12.75″ caught using fishbites. Keep in mind there is a “Grand Slam” prize for the angler weighing in the most individual species so all these fish count! Anglers are still catching fluke (gulp or squid), kingfish (bloodworms or fishbites) and bluefish (mullet or lure) off the surf, so take advantage of this beautiful day!

The Steinholding Competition has become a staple event of our annual Oktoberfest and it kicks off at 4:30pm with signups available onsite all day. Please see game rules below:

A steinholding contest (or Masskrugstemmen) is a traditional Bavarian strength and endurance competition where participants hold a full one-liter beer stein straight out in front of their bodies with a locked, straight arm for as long as possible.

Equipment and Specifications
* The Stein: Competitors use an official one-liter dimpled glass mug (Masskrug).
* The Weight: When filled to the one-liter line with beer, the mug weighs roughly 5 pounds (about 2.2 kg).
* The Grip: The mug must be gripped firmly by the handle in a fist; the thumb CANNOT rest on top of the handle.

Core Rules and Regulations
* Arm Position: The holding arm must remain completely straight and parallel to the ground, with the elbow strictly locked.
* No Support: The holding arm cannot touch or rest against the competitor’s chest or torso. The free hand must stay at the competitor’s side.
* No Spilling: Any amount of liquid spilling or dripping from inside the stein results in immediate disqualification.
* Strikes and Penalties: Judges issue “strikes” for minor form lapses (like bending the elbow or leaning excessively). Multiple strikes lead to elimination.

* Winning: The last person standing with correct, uncompromised form wins the competition.

A $500 cash prize will be awarded to the registered angler weighing in a tournament "Grand Slam" consisting of at least four (4) of seven (7) eligible tournament species: Striped Bass, Bluefish, Kingfish, Tautog, Fluke, Red Drum and Weakfish. The most individual species entered by the end of the tournament wins. Tie will be broken by total weight.
