Twenty five years ago today, thousands of people went to work on an ordinary Tuesday morning and never made it home. Others ran toward the buildings everyone else was running out of, and a lot of them did not come back either.

We are a small bike shop in Nebraska, a long way from any of it, and we do not have anything profound to add. What we can do is stop for a minute, remember the people who were lost, and say thank you to the firefighters, medics, and officers here at home who would run toward it tomorrow without thinking twice.

Today we remember.

A first time e-bike rider and their son came in and put close to seventy miles on the Chief Standing Bear Trail. Eric got them set up on the right equipment before they rolled out, and the trailhead is only a few blocks from our lot, so they parked once and rode straight to it. If you have been curious what an e-bike can do on a long trail day, come find out.

Find us at 719 Market St in Beatrice, open Wednesday through Saturday.

A bike that fits is the difference between a kid who rides all fall and a kid whose bike lives in the garage. The mistake almost everybody makes is buying a size up so they can grow into it, which leaves them fighting the bike instead of riding it.

The Strider 14X we just listed on Marketplace handles the other half of that problem, which is the learning itself. It starts out as a balance bike, so your kid works out steering and balance with both feet reaching the ground and no training wheels wobbling them around, and when they are ready for the next step the included pedal kit turns it into a real pedal bike. Same bike, same fit, no second purchase. This one is used but it is in like new shape and it has already been tuned up in the shop.

Bring them in and we will size it with your kid standing right there, and we will size it again at no charge when they hit a growth spurt, which they will, probably in about ten minutes.

Who is learning to ride at your house this fall? Tell us below, then come see it at 719 Market St in Beatrice, Wednesday through Saturday, or message us to hold it.

There is a stretch of trail that starts a few blocks from our front door, and over the next six weeks it is going to look better than it does at any other point in the year.

The Chief Standing Bear Trail runs roughly 23 miles from the Gage County Foundation Depot right here in Beatrice down to the Kansas line, following the Blue River through farmland, prairie, and long shaded runs of tree canopy. There is a bike repair station at every one of the four trailheads, so you are never really stranded out there. You do not have to ride the whole thing either. Go out as far as you feel like and turn around, because a ride that ends when you want it to is still a ride.

If you have not been on it since spring, this is your reminder. How far south have you made it? Tell us in the comments, and if the bike needs anything before you go, we are at 719 Market St, Wednesday through Saturday.

People keep asking us whether an ebike is cheating, and the honest answer is that you are still pedaling the whole time. What the motor does is flatten the hills and cut a headwind down to something reasonable, which turns the ride you would have talked yourself out of into the ride you actually take.

The Retrospec Valen REV 3 just came in and it is on our Marketplace page now, brand new, with fat tires that shrug off gravel and chewed up pavement, a long bench seat, and a rear rack. It runs up to 20 mph and goes as far as 75 miles on a single charge, which is more range than most people around here will use in a week of riding. Fall is the right time to buy one, because cooler air means you are not fighting the heat on top of everything else, and there is a solid two months of good riding left before anything gets put away.

Come ride it around the block, because two minutes on the bike explains it better than we can. We are at 719 Market St in Beatrice, Wednesday through Saturday, and you can message us to hold it.

Almost every bike that comes in this time of year needs the same three things, and none of them are dramatic on their own.

There is usually a chain that has stretched past its limit, brake pads worn thinner than the rider realized, and tires holding less air than they should. Individually those are small fixes. Together they are the whole difference between a bike that feels tired and a bike that feels new again. That is most of what a fall tune up is, along with a cable check, a bearing check, and a set of eyes that have seen a few thousand of these come through the door.

Bring it in now while the schedule is still open and you will have it back for the best riding weeks of the year. We are at 719 Market St in Beatrice, Wednesday through Saturday. What is your bike doing lately that it was not doing back in May?

September is when a bike stops being a summer toy and turns into the best way to get across town. The mornings are cool, there is no parking to fight, and most of the running around people do in Beatrice is short enough that the car never really earns its keep.

The Aventon Abound SR Stealth just went up on our Marketplace page, and it is built for exactly that kind of day. It has a long rear rack with a padded passenger seat and a backrest, side bags for whatever you are hauling home, and 20 inch wheels on an aluminum frame that keep it steady when it is loaded down. This one is our shop demo with 20 miles on it, so it is essentially new, and it is listed at a lowered price that comes in below what you would pay online.

It was assembled and tuned right here, it is ready to ride the day you pick it up, and when it needs adjusting down the road you bring it back to a building you can walk into.

What is the one trip around town you would ride instead of drive? Tell us below, then come take a look at 719 Market St, Wednesday through Saturday, or message us to hold it.

Summer does not end on a calendar. It ends the last time you ride like it is summer.

Labor Day weekend is coming, school is back in session, and the evenings are getting shorter. Before the season officially turns, get the family out for one more ride. No destination required. Just the crew, the trail, and the kind of afternoon everyone remembers in February.

And when you get back, if anything on anyone's bike felt off, bring it by. We are at 719 Market St in Beatrice, Wednesday through Saturday, ready to keep you rolling straight into fall.
