I dedicate today to all the f’n badasses who wanted to adventure in the NE25mph wind. It makes you feel alive. I also dedicate today to all the weenies who want to cancel when they see North winds over 15. The Albies chew in this fall weather.

Red snapper season 2026 - we had one fishable day of weather. Having had those days booked months in advance for Albies, I talked a couple Albie fishermen into giving it a try for a few hours and they were were down with the new experience. It wasn’t red hot but we caught some smalls and mediums (and released a few gags) and stuck a couple upper teens snappers. The Capt even got to catch one for himself ☺️ In true fashion for days 2 and 3 it poured rain and blew 20-30mph out of the SE.

Sun, rain and Albies. Fish are loving this north east wind which is so overdo! Albies have been on smaller bait the past week (the water is still 80deg+) so speed is king. Spin has out performed fly with the Hogy Lure Company Official surface eraser being the best producer.

So there have been a lot of these guys around the last couple months - enough that I’ve been able to target them in certain marsh channels and flats on topwater and fly. Roaming around in small schools they will absolutely wack a popper! We always have some random around and often a lot of the small hand-sized ones but the roaming schools of these ~5lb fish have been a real treat (particularly with the subpar slot drum and trout fishing this year).

Albie fishing remains excellent - huge schools. Some day fly is tougher than others. Lately they’ve been all over the surface erasers.

Shark depredation is a big topic in the fishing community in today’s day and age (and honestly probably forever). While it’s not a major issue for me - this was an incredible experience. This poor red snapper (and it was a big’gun) was grabbed by a massive sandbar shark that proceeded to circle boat several times. I’ve always found sandbars to be an incredibly impressive shark - their massive dorsal fin and huge shoulders that taper into their big pectoral fins. Absolutely intimidating.

It’s going to be a great fall! Come see me in October!

The fishing has just been outstanding recently. Huge schools from the beach on out feeding on various small bay anchovies, silversides and other early season baits. But they’ve been very aggressive and willing to eat fly and spin. And, as always, the Hogy Lure Company Official epoxy jigs out produce everything. Tons of Spanish mixed in the same areas. As well as blues and various jacks.

I still have October dates available - calendar is open on my website.

Doc with one of many nice Albies from this weekend. Our albacore fishing is off to a fantastic start with big numbers showing (along with Spanish mackerel). Shaping up to be a great fall!

I only have a couple days left in September (same wit Nov) but I have a good number of October days left. My calendar is now live on my website.

There’s a lot of life in the ocean right now as fall is fully teasing us. As we were casting to Spanish and Albies we watched this big chase a Spanish mackerel on the surface.
