Dear Students,
With a heavy heart, I want to let you all know that rapid waters jiu-jitsu will be closing its doors at the end of this month.
This decision was not made lightly, and it comes after much reflection and consideration. Over the years, it has been my greatest privilege to teach, guide, and grow alongside each of you. Watching your progress, your dedication, and the community we've built together has meant the world to me.
I’m incredibly proud of everything we’ve accomplished, and I will always be grateful for the trust and support you've given me and this Academy.
While this chapter is coming to an end, I hope the lessons, skills, and memories you’ve gained here stay with you wherever you go next. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or just want to stay in touch.
Thank you again—for everything.
With appreciation,
Professor Wayne

📍 What Would Zy Do Wednesday
Getting pinned under a bigger opponent can feel like there’s no way out — but that’s exactly when technique matters most. 💪🔥 In this clip, Zy finds himself stuck in side control against his big brother. Instead of trying to muscle his way free (which almost never works against a size advantage), he stays calm, thinks strategically, and creates space to quickly do a reversal.
By moving his opponents head up quickly, he opens up just enough room to swing his legs through without getting keylocked. In one quick motion, he flips the position and takes control on top. 👏
This is one of the most important lessons in jiu-jitsu: leverage and timing will always beat brute strength. 🥋 It’s not about being the biggest or strongest in the room — it’s about knowing what to do and when to do it.
So… what would Zy do? Stay calm, make space, and use skill to turn a tough situation into a winning position. 💡
🥋 Move of the Week Monday! 🥋
This week we’re working on one of the most fundamental and effective techniques in Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling — the Double Leg Takedown! 💥
The double leg is a must-know for anyone looking to improve their takedown game. It’s all about timing, level change, and commitment. When done right, it lets you control the pace of the match, set the tone from the start, and put yourself in a strong position right from the takedown. 💪
Whether you’re brand new to grappling or have been training for years, mastering the basics like this is what builds a strong foundation for more advanced techniques later on.
💡 Pro tip: Don’t rely on brute strength — focus on good posture, a deep level change, and driving through with your legs.
Who’s ready to shoot for double legs this week? 👊🔥 Drop a 💥 in the comments if you’re hitting the mats with us!

📖 Storytime Sunday: Why I Want to Run the Gym 🥋💭
When I first started Jiu-Jitsu, my dad wasn’t a coach — he was just there cheering me on, watching me fall in love with the sport. I had no idea that one day he’d open a gym and build a space where so many people, including me, would grow and learn.
When he eventually did open Rapid Waters and became the head coach, everything changed. Jiu-Jitsu wasn’t just a sport anymore — it became a part of our family. I spent so much of my childhood here, training, helping out, and watching him run the mats. And somewhere along the way, I realized… I didn’t just love training here — I wanted to be part of leading it too.
Now things look a little different than they did back then. My dad isn’t the one running the classes anymore, but the dream he started is still alive. And I want to carry it forward. 💪
One day, I want to step fully into that role — not just as “Coach Zy,” but as the head coach and owner of Rapid Waters Jiu-Jitsu. I want to keep teaching kids the lessons this sport taught me: how to stay calm under pressure, how to work hard for your goals, and how to get back up no matter how many times you’re taken down.
Every time I help coach a class, every drill I repeat, every kid I encourage — it’s a step toward that dream. This place is a huge part of my story… and I’m excited to keep writing the next chapter. 🥋💙

🔥 Showdown Saturday! 🔥
Hey everyone! It’s Zy 👋
This week’s showdown is a special one. The other kid in this roll isn’t just a training partner, he’s one of my best friends, and we’ve been on the mats together since the very beginning, back when Rapid Waters first opened in 2020. 🥋💪
We’ve grown up side by side. Drilling, rolling, competing, and pushing each other to get better every single class. And even though we’re friends off the mats, on the mats it’s always a battle. 😤💥
Can you watch our roll with a coach’s eye 👀:
💭 Can you count the points?
✅ Takedowns, sweeps, guard passes, positions — every little detail matters.
Or… you can keep it simple and just tell us:
👉 Who do YOU think won this showdown? 👇
It doesn’t matter what the scoreboard says — the best part is that every time we roll, we push each other to be better than the day before. That’s what Jiu-Jitsu is all about. 💯🔥
Join Coach Aaron Wolfford and Wayne Rainwater tomorrow 12:30-2:30 for open mat!
Show up early 11am-12pm is yoga with Stephanie Briscoe!
🥋 Fun Fact Friday — or is it? 😏
Today I was going to teach you how to do “Kiss the Dragon” — you know, that fancy spin-under move from single leg X or De La Riva that gets you to the back…
…just kidding. 😆 Fun fact: I actually hate that move. It’s way too complicated when a good old-fashioned dummy sweep works just fine 💪🔥
And of course, I had to prove my point on my big brother… until he trapped my leg 😅 (cut the camera! CUT!)
What’s a move YOU secretly dislike? 👇
💪 Throwdown Thursday Challenge! 💪
Today I drilled collar drags 100 times — because in Jiu-Jitsu, the key to getting better isn’t just learning a move once… it’s repping it over and over until it becomes second nature. 🥋🔥
Now it’s your turn! 👊
Can YOU complete 100 collar drags this week without stopping? 💯💪
Record your attempt or drop your rep count in the comments 👇 — let’s see who’s got the discipline to finish the challenge! 💥
🤔 What Would Zy Do? Wednesday!!!!
You’re rolling, and your opponent traps one arm and starts going for an armbar, what do you do?
