During the time of injury recovery, it is equally and arguably more important than fueling during peak training.

⁉️ Here's why: While we are at peak training, fueling is (or should be) at the forefront. We are constantly thinking about 3 things: training, fueling and recovery.

🩼 🤕 When we are injured, we are (most of the time) not as hungry because we aren't doing as much activity. We are constantly thinking about 1 thing: When can I start training again?

🧠⏰ It's time to start thinking differently. This is the most important time to give your body the building blocks that it needs to help aid and promote the healing process. You may not be doing much in the form of physical activity, but your body is working overtime to help you heal. Let's do our best to make that possible by giving it all the fuel, hydration and nutrients that it needs. This is likely just as much fuel as you would be taking in if you were doing your typical endurance training activities.

*Fueling during peak training is extremely important and shouldn't be taken lightly. Most of the time we are already thinking about training nutrition though, it tends to fall off when we aren't training.

I have a few other running events that I am participating in as well. First up Seabrook Lucky Trails half marathon on Saturday March 15.

There are many athletes that have a "lighter is faster" mindset. This was the my case for years. This can be true if you are carrying a lot of excess weight, but there comes a point in training where under fueling will cause your training to be ineffective for your goals. It is important to define your goals before diving into a big race prep to determine what your training and fueling should look like leading into that race. When your volume and intensity increases during training, your focus on consuming enough calories to support that training should also increase.
