According to the Laws of the Game, the length of the half-time interval:
➡️ should not exceed 15 minutes
➡️ must be defined by the competition rules (can be shorter at lower levels, especially in youth/children’s football)
➡️ may be altered only with the referee’s permission
If players of both teams and the referee agree, the half-time interval can be:
➡️ cancelled
➡️ reduced
Examples: teams want to shorten the interval to complete the game earlier because of a late kick-off, fading light or weather that is getting worse
➡️ increased
Examples: the interval must be extended because of bad weather, condition of the field or crowd disorder

Continued education is back! ✏️🎓
The first webinar in the 2023 "It's Your Job" series hosted by the Oregon SDI, Miles Crumley, will be focused on "Writing Match Reports." This interactive session will cover what goes in a match report, how to complete the narrative, and things to avoid. Match Reports are a key part of the referee's job and many leagues require match reports to complete disciplinary sanctions and pay referees. A key to making sure that players, substitutes, team officials, and spectators are held accountable for their actions is to submit accurate and timely match reports.
Join us on March 8th, 2023 from 6:30 to 8:00pm to gain valuable insights into how to submit better match reports!
The "It's Your Job" series is the 2023 training and education webinar series that teaches referees how to perform specific tasks that must be mastered in order to progress to higher levels. Come join us as Oregon's State Director of Instruction, Miles Crumley, guides referees on things to consider and develop that will help you accomplish your long term referee goals.
