If you’ve spent any time around Self Defense 4 U, you know these two.

Tom and Alex Hogue have spent years teaching Bedford kids, teens, and adults, but running a martial arts school means doing a little bit of everything.

Teaching classes. Answering parent questions. Fixing things. Encouraging a frustrated student. Celebrating a new belt. And occasionally reminding everyone to stop climbing on something they definitely shouldn’t be climbing on.

It’s a family-run local business, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Once a month, we trade regular class time for a themed night packed with games, activities, friends, and plenty of chances to burn off some energy.

The kids get a night of fun, and parents get a few hours to themselves. Sounds like a win-win to us!

Kids need to burn off some energy. Parents need a break. We’ve got both covered.

Once a month, Self Defense 4 U hosts Parents’ Night Out, a special themed evening where kids can come hang out, play games, stay active, and have a great time with friends.

Meanwhile, Mom and Dad get a few much-needed hours to themselves. Date night, quiet dinner, errands without an audience, or sitting on the couch doing absolutely nothing. We’re not judging.

Each month brings a new theme and plenty of fun for the kids.

Kali isn't about showing off weapons... it's about learning to stay safe when facing them.

Our Kali class (ages 14+) teaches practical self-defense through stick training, defensive techniques, footwork, timing, and distance management. You'll build confidence, sharpen your awareness, and develop skills that translate beyond the training floor.

Our Teen Program (ages 11–16) challenges students to become stronger physically and mentally through advanced martial arts training, self-defense, sparring, and Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals.
