Peaks Coaching Group Coach, Todd Scheske found the "kitchen sink" when out riding. A family packed a trailer full of gear for their camping trip, including the "kitchen sink". Have you done one of Hunter's epic "Kitchen Sink" workouts? Try this one this weekend.
Break the ride into 4 sections of equal time (ex: if ride is 4 hours, 1 hour sections) and in each section complete the following efforts.
------
WU: 15 Minutes (Power Z2, HR Z2, RPE 2-3) with 3 x 1 minute fast pedals to open up the legs.
------
SECTION 1: Neuromuscular Power – During the first section of the ride complete 6 x 20 seconds all out sprints. Target short hills or fast zones that allow you to begin sprints from 18-22mph. Sprints area all out and hard as you can go. Try to allow for at least 5 minutes of riding at endurance pace in-between sprints.
SECTION 2: VO2Max – during this section complete an interval set of 4 x 4 min VO2Max effort (Power Z5, HR Z5, RPE 6-7) with 4 minutes rest in-between intervals. Try to do these in the middle of the section and on a long flat road with no interruptions.
SECTION 3 – Threshold – During this section we will complete a 4 x 10 min effort at SST (Sweet Spot) (Power Z3.5, Heart Rate Z3.5, RPE 4) with a 5 – 10 minute rest in-between intervals.
SECTION 4 – ANAEROBIC CAPACITY – Complete 5 x 1 Minute all out efforts (Power Z6, HR Z6, RPE >7) with 4 minutes rest in-between.
Ride all other time in your ENDurance zone (Power Z2, HR Z2, RPE 2-3). This ride will really tax all systems and should send you home pretty tired so focus on recovery the moment you get off the bike.
