I'd like to take a moment and let everyone know what happened on Saturday 11/23. It was the morning on the Bass Pro Shops Sevierville High School and Middle School tournament on Norris Lake. Due to such a large turn out I decided that I would launch our boat at a nearby marina and drive to the launch sight to stay out of all the congestion. Little did I know that when I turned the key to start the boat we wouldn't get the engine to crank. We are fishing out of a 30 year old Boat but its been great until yesterday! We sat their doing everything we knew how in attempt to still make the blast of as were boat 23 in the first flight. Several other competitors stopped and asked us if we needed help but I'd always just tell them that we were fine and that they should just go on and not be late. As it got to be about 15 minutes before blast off we were the only boat in sight and we were still trying to get is started. What happened next is truly humbling and taught me as well as my son and his partner a life lesson that we still can't believe happened. As we looked up we saw the most familiar boat in Bass Fishing backing down the ramp.
It was Ott Defoe and his son, and partner. Ott saw what was going on and went into action. Ott gave us a hand held battery booster, but still not starting, next Ott went back to his truck and got jumpers and proceeded to work on our boat. At this point we were still not cranking. Ott asked us if we needed tools and was going to help us change out parts.
As I kept telling Ott to go on and not be late, it seemed that he still wanted to help us figure it out.
This is remarkable what kind of person Ott Defoe is for the sport of Bass Fishing.
I had never met Ott before this morning and neither had my son. My son has always wanted to meet Ott. The Good Lord sure does work in mysterious ways.
If anyone can forward this on Ott Id just like him to know how much I appreciate the way he tried to help us on Saturday.
Most importantly, I'm proud that Ott Defoe is such a great Ambassador for the sport of Bass Fishing and really does so much for the young kids that want to get involved in this great sport!

Not exactly what our Vanguard Anglers hoped for but they did weigh 1 keeper and caught some short fish. They do have a plan for day two. Go Vanguard!
