The Black Hills Roundup is cheering for South Dakota cowgirls Summer Kosel and Lisa Lockhart as they compete in the Puyallup Finals today!

A top-four finish at Puyallup earns an automatic trip to the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, where more than $100,000 will be on the line for the barrel racing, just days before the ProRodeo regular season ends.

For Lisa, it is another opportunity to strengthen her position in the race to her 20th National Finals Rodeo.

For Summer, advancing to Sioux Falls could provide an opportunity to make a serious move into the top 15.

From South Dakota to Washington, with a chance to come home to Sioux Falls and fight for Vegas.

Go for gold, ladies! South Dakota is behind you! 🇺🇸🐎🥇

The Black Hills Roundup extends its deepest condolences to the Sutton family on the passing of Jim Sutton.

Jim was a cowboy and athlete. A standout basketball player, he was once drafted to play professional basketball, but he chose cowboy boots over high-tops. That decision became part of a remarkable rodeo career that included innovation in the sport and multiple awards.

Throughout the years, as the Sutton family celebrated achievements of their own, they often took time to recognize the Black Hills Roundup’s PRCA accomplishments at their events. That show of respect and support was never lost on our committee.

This year, Jim and the Sutton family celebrated 100 years of Sutton Rodeos. A truly historic milestones in a profession that often takes more than it gives.

As a rodeo community, we should never get so busy looking toward the next rodeo that we forget to recognize the people who made any of it possible, who took risks and tried something new.

The greatest way we can honor the generations who came before us is to make sure there is still the western way of life for the generations coming behind us. Rest easy, Jim. Your entry fees have been paid. ❤️
