On September 16, 1919, The American Legion was officially chartered by Congress—uniting veterans in service, advocacy, and community.

For 106 years, Legionnaires have upheld the values of Service, Patriotism, and Support for veterans, military families, and communities across the nation.

Today, we celebrate our rich history and the Legion Family members who continue to stand tall for America. Thank you for your service and dedication—you are the heart of this organization. ❤️🤍💙

During the 1932 American Legion National Convention in Portland, the Sons of The American Legion were adopted as a program within the Legion.
