Death to bulletproofing. There’s no such thing. You probably just need to move less crappy. Death to internet fad training.

Happy National Women in Sports day. I’m blessed for having the opportunity to work with so many cool female athletes over the years. It’s been wild to watch them make it on to college sports, the pros, and getting where they want in life. No way that I could fit everybody into one picture, but beyond thankful for the chance to work with y’all.

tough love. Your 400 pound bench might get you some interest, but when coach sees your plyometric testing that offer is out the window. If you’re super strong, get faster. if you’re really fast, get stronger. don’t pour water into the ocean.

The beginning trainer relies on a pre-determined battery of tests to break down a complex athlete. The experienced trainer understands deficits and imbalances based on weighted movements and plyometric analysis. 50% of professional football players would most likely fail the FMS, and it’s still the “gold standard” for screening athletes. Make it make sense.

My favorite jump work as of late. Impact absorption, reactive jumping, and both long and short ground contact times. With limited time per session, find a way to make it work.

If you keep working on jumping higher and can’t figure out why it isn’t effective, check your landings. The ability of the muscles and tendons to absorb and use force is heavily overlooked in training. Work on landing as much as you work on jumping.

The boys went down to the Stanford Open this weekend and swept the competition for the first tournament win of the year. College frisbee players doing real strength training? Just wait to see what happens. Proud of these goons and excited to see where the season takes them.

MOHI is more than a training service, it’s a culture. The first picture is some of the most hardworking boys I’ve ever worked with. I’ve seen them grow up from tiny little freshmen to the future college athletes that they are now. The second picture is most of the original Speed Camp members, who put their trust in me when I was just starting out on my own. You come to MOHI and you have a second family.

Regardless of what you think: you have the time. Improvement comes in a lot of different forms. A lot of people can only find time to train once a week, and that’s enough. Find the extra two hours and thank yourselves when you live 20 years longer.

Y’all have been asking: and you know I gotta deliver. Speed Camp is back for year 2.

This isn’t “track work”. This is getting cleats on, getting on a field, and learning how to really accelerate and change direction. We’ll be diving deep into angles, COM work, and plenty of testing and reps. This isn’t any hopping through ladders, running around tiny cones stuff, this is real speed work.

Sessions will be starting Sunday, February 6th, and programming will follow an 8 week schedule. Get your spots now and get a whole lot faster.

Don’t pick and choose. If somebody trusts you to help them along their journey, show them the same respect in return. Show up for EVERYBODY.

Beginning strength coaches: stop just picking up the books you need to get a certification, and actually read for the purpose of expanding your knowledge. The more you consider it “studying”, the less of the book you actually enjoy and retain.
