Run, bike, and paddle through Bellingham’s scenic parks, winding trails, and open waterways, in this fun relay race adventure!

Compete as a soloist, tandem team or a team of five. The Bellingham Traverse is a a fun relay race that celebrates the journey of wild salmon. Families, friends and local companies form Chinook (solo), Coho (tandem) and CHUM (relay teams) to run, bike and paddle through Bellingham’s scenic parks, winding trails and open waterways.

Today is the day! Registration for the 2026 Bellingham Traverse is officially open. Whatcom Events, the team behind the legendary Ski to Sea race have taken it on and we're pleased to announce that the event will return at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 29th!

Our current plan is to start with Sea Kayak from Waypoint Park to Marine Park followed by a Road Bike Leg around Lake Samish, a Trail Run around the outer trails of Padden up to Galbraith, Mountain Bike on Galbraith, a Greenway Run back to Waypoint Park and finishing with a short team run before the After Party at Kulshan Brewing's Trackside location. We hope you will join us; we are excited to bring this event back to the community after it’s hiatus!

Bad news...

Sadly, we have to cancel the 2025 Bellingham Traverse due to a low number of registrations. It is a race we love and have stuck with it despite pandemic and wildfire challenges in recent years. We also know that many of you love the race too, which makes this decision even harder. We will process full refunds today.

The Bellingham Traverse started and finished at Boundary Bay Brewery for almost 20 years (2002 - 2019). As this is their last year in business and are hosting a block party on September 20th, we are going to contribute Bellingham Traverse T-Shirts and other swag for anyone who wants one. Please stop by and grab a shirt if you can.

Sad news to share. 😢

Friends, we have some unfortunate news to announce regarding the Bellingham Traverse. We have decided to cancel this year's Traverse due to the complexity and associated costs with hosting the event.

We know there are a lot of people who adore this race, us included. That is what makes this decision so hard. We hope to bring the event back in the future, perhaps in a different format.

Thank you for supporting the Bellingham Traverse all these years.
