The Belmont School of Ballet

In the late 1800s, America was building something entirely new. Railroads. Factories. Cities. The promise of a better life ahead.

But behind that progress, real people were struggling. Workers endured 10 to 16 hour days for little pay, in conditions we’d call inhumane today.

They were the backbone of the country, and they knew it. So they organized. They pushed for something better, not just for the economy, but for their families.

Our dancers carry that same grit. The discipline. The long hours. The quiet dedication behind every performance.

So today, we’re honoring that history and the dignity of hard work.

Meet the instructor: Bridget Porter-Young ✨

For 44 years, Ms. Bridget has been teaching, mentoring, and inspiring generations of dancers across the Charlotte area—and she continues to bring that same passion into the studio today. 💕

As Artistic Director of Charlotte School of Ballet, Belmont School of Ballet, and Charlotte Youth Ballet, Bridget’s influence reaches far beyond the classroom.

She is a Fellow of the Cecchetti Council of America, a Registered Teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance, and an Affiliate of the American Academy of Ballet.

Skyla has spent over 30 years shaping dancers across the Charlotte area, and her Intermediate Variations class remains one of the reasons families keep coming back to BSB.

She’s A.R.A.D. certified through the Royal Academy of Dance, trained at The Point Park Conservatory, and danced professionally with North Carolina Dance Theatre and the National Ballet of Cuba under Laura Alonzo. We’re honored to have a teacher of her caliber on our faculty.

New face, serious résumé — and even better energy. Meet Maddie, the newest addition to the BSB family. Warm, kind, and incredibly talented.

15 years teaching, a BFA from Ohio State, and a special love for modern and contemporary. She teaches Pre-Ballet/Tap, Primary Ballet, Jr. Lyrical/Contemporary, and Adult Lyrical/Contemporary.
