Tonight was our Athletic banquet and the Martin’s Mill Bass Fishing Team was recognized. When I get behind the mic I freeze. I feel I need to let the community know how we are funded and ran. We are so grateful to all our sponsors, community and school. I am also grateful for our Captains. We would not have a team without our captains Mike Runyon, Lennie Hale and Chris Saxon you are all rockstars. Sacrificing your time, money, knowledge and boats. Thank you so much. Also I recognized two young men and their efforts.
Mitch Hale- Freshman-he is amazing in the classroom, UIL competitor, always responsive, spending a weekend with BASS University, always trying to be a better angler. I awarded him as new comer angler of the year.
Slayde Runyon- Junior- 3 times regional qualifier, 2 time Big Bass, Richland Chambers Bass Club, UIL competitor, Varsity Basketball, always researching gear, always on the water, researching lakes, attended every tournament, excels in the classroom, collaborating with college anglers, and preparing for the next year. I awarded him with Angler of Year.
This is my 3rd year as the sponsor and I look forward to my 4th year. These guys are great and look forward to the new season. The captains are the coaches, I just keep the boys straight and hand out money. These boys keep me on my toes, but I love it.
There are many stories that can be shared about some of these teams. The best part is we are making memories, representing the district and our sponsors.
Thank you again

What a day on Cedar Creek! We had two teams compete today and fought the weather like a champ.
Gatlin and Slayde’s boat already had a couple of inches of water before even launching this morning. Hung out in some coves while the line blew in.
There were 175 teams competing today in the crazy weather. Many were trying to lock in there spot for regionals.
Gatlin came in clutch before deciding on getting off the water before the next line came in. Gatlin ripped up a 5 pounder to put them on the board.
Case and Tanner fished as well, but came up short. They caught fish, but did not meet the tournament requirements. Very proud they fought through the storm.
Slayde and Gatlin will be advancing to regionals. In this tournament they placed 47th out of 175. Way to go guys.
