So very cool seeing so many people using the new courts at Pine Nursery. As a supporter of beach volleyball please help us keep them functioning well so they can last a long time. BPRD provided the land under a long-term lease but North Pacific Volleyball Club paid for the whole thing and we are responsible for taking care of the courts and the cost for repairs. No tax dollars were used in creating the courts. All the funding was put together through the club.

We have a great relationship with BPRD and one way we can keep the relationship working well and the courts there for a long time is if you can help us by encouraging people using the courts to do the following:

• Toss rocks found in the sand into the sage brush and not on the grass.

• Water hoses collected at the end of the day and not left spread out on the grass. BPRD maintenance crews want to be able to just run their mowers in that area without having toe puck up after us.

•. Resist adjusting the tension of the nets. We have already had to repair issues from people messing with them. Please let us know if there is anything that you want to adjust.

•. Contact NPJ (just message me) if you have any concerns or notice anything on the courts that needs to be fixed or adjusted.

We are so very appreciative of all the help that you provided with the volunteer days to get the courts done. I am planning on going out there this Friday morning to finish up finalizing nets and lines and from there hopefully they are set and good to go without any need to touch them.

Looking forward to seeing more and more people out there this year.

Private-public partnership includes public access to new amenities

Bend, Ore. – (June 22, 2020) – Through a partnership, North Pacific Juniors (NPJ) Volleyball Club and Bend Park and Recreation District worked together to bring sand volleyball courts to the community, and public access begins today.

Five new sand volleyball courts were constructed at Pine Nursery Park, south of the dog park, at 3750 NE Purcell Blvd. BPRD provided the land at Pine Nursery Park, and NPJ constructed and will maintain and operate the courts.

Open play on the courts is available to the public at all times other than tournaments and programmed activities by NPJ or BPRD. During scheduled tournaments, all courts will be closed to the public until the tournament concludes. During programmed activities there will be two courts designated for open public use.

The courts are available for private rental for the purposes of training, practices, clinics, camps, tournaments, parties or events. All rentals will be managed by NPJ.

“We are so excited to announce the opening of the NPJ Beach courts at Pine Nursery Park for the community to be able to enjoy the nicest beach volleyball courts in the Pacific Northwest,” said Adam Ellis, NPJ director. “It took a wonderful demonstration of teamwork and countless hours behind the scenes overseeing this project to ensure the courts were built in time for the kids to be able to play this summer. Thanks to all who were involved for their help in making this happen.”

“We’re pleased that the collaboration with NPJ is making it possible for sand volleyball activities to return to the community,” said Michelle Healy, deputy executive director, Bend Park and Recreation District. “This partnership is a good example of how to add specialized amenities that allow for dedicated use as well as drop-in public access.”

Final touches to landscaping are underway; therefore, caution is recommended and adherence to the marked off areas still under construction.

BPRD and NPJ also advise the following:
Maintain six-foot distancing from others at all times.
Don't congregate on courts, in common areas, or parking lots.
Minimize sharing equipment.
Wash hands before and after visit to the park.

Do not play if:
You have coronavirus symptoms: mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, coughing, difficulty breathing, or other symptoms identified by the CDC.
Have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
Are a vulnerable individual and/or have underlying health conditions.

We are working hard to have the courts ready for public use starting next week June 22nd. As soon as we have approval from Bend Parks and rec to open the courts to the public we will post on this page. We are getting close!
