It doesn’t matter what you do at the margins if you don’t get the basics broadly right in training and racing. Really enjoyed talking to Scotty Sandow on the podcast.
The Art of Ultrarunning w/ Ian Sharman - Ultra Running Magazine
Scotty sits down with veteran ultrarunner Ian Sharman to talk about his new book, The Art of Ultrarunning. They discuss highlights of the book including how to best pace yourself in an ultramarathon, the benefits of power-hiking, how not to let ego sabotage your race day.

With Cocodona coming to a close, my latest article explains how to deal with the key differences between 200-milers and 100-milers. :
200-Milers vs. 100-Milers - Ultra Running Magazine
The longer a race is, the more things can go wrong. Especially when there’s at least a second night of racing. The 200-mile races have grown in popularity, and many runners are moving up from 100-milers to take on a new challenge.

Artist and trail runner Megan Marie Myers is a good friend in Bend and she just got diagnosed with brain cancer. Her artwork is on my nephew's and niece's walls. Read more about her here, including links for donations for medical costs:
The Artist, Runner & Adventurer - Ultra Running Magazine
My friend is a runner and adventurer. She loves spending time outdoors and running in the mountains with friends. She’s even won some big trail races like the Waldo 100k, McKenzie River 50k and Bend Trail Series.

After a month focused on corrective exercises and strengthening, my calves and Achilles feel way better. was an ideal long run test (and break for warm weather). So now I can train hard again - 3 months til Thames Path 100 with 3 marathons as training en route. Also great to see people I haven’t bumped into since leaving the Bay Area in 2015, including the legendary Jean Pommier. Highly recommend this fast, looped course near Sacramento.
