I picked up my puppy from nine weeks at obedience school. Six to eight hours a day of training. Discipline poured into her tiny body, day after day, by people who love dogs.
And when we reunited, full transparency, I was initially concerned that the training might dim her spirit. But if anything, she was more herself. More playful and affectionate than ever. And now she’s able to sit and walk by my side, calm, confident, and centered in herself.
Isn’t calm and confident what we are all wanting in our relationship with food?
That’s what discipline (the kind that doesn’t come from a critical, harsh, or extreme place) does.
I’ve seen at least 1,000 social media posts from coaches in my industry saying the same thing: you don’t need more discipline.
That couldn’t be further from the truth.
You absolutely need discipline. What you don’t need is the version of discipline that’s been sold to you. The kind that came from whatever current cleanse, diet, or supplement they’re trying to sell you. The kind that came from restriction, punishment, or trying to whip yourself into shape because you weren’t enough as you were. That kind of discipline disconnects you from your body, and it doesn’t work long-term, so of course you’ve come to believe you don’t need it.
But there’s a different kind of discipline. The kind that comes from love. The kind I gave my puppy by sending her to a place where she’d be cared for and trained, because I want a lifetime of relaxed adventures with her. I want her to feel safe in any environment. I want her to be able to come everywhere with me. That investment in discipline is going to pay us back in years of ease and play and trust.
That’s what I teach inside the Embodied Woman.
A different kind of discipline. A healthy relationship with structure that creates ease in your body. It’s this kind of discipline that allows you to live at peace with food, without the constant negotiation, self-hatred, and shame spirals.
When discipline comes from love, it creates ease, and the safety and containment that we all need. It gives you your confidence back.
If you want ease and peace with food that’s lasting,

Like most things, the shortcut ends up taking us longer in the end. Thoughts?
When we have anything going on with our body, whether that’s fatigue or an ache or a craving, we tend to skip over the very first step and head straight into problem solving mode. That first step is presence, attunement, slowing down, dropping in, refined listening.
And the irony of the wellness movement is that it tends to be modality-first. Whether the modality is a supplement, an acupuncture treatment, a juice cleanse, or a GLP….it tends to be where we go first. But when you become embodied, you learn that YOU are the medicine. Your deep, undistracted, warm, loving presence infused into your tissues. And when we stop making wellness hacks into saviors, they can be excellent supports but never take the place of living relationship and intimate connection at the foundation.

If you’ve been feeling stuck lately, or like your sparkle’s just been a little dimmer than usual, swipe through this. Because I’ve been right there with you the past few weeks.
I sat down to write and nothing came. I tried to brainstorm and it was like reaching into an empty void. Only my brain wasn’t empty at all. It was overstuffed with online courses, video trainings, masterclasses, my top 9 favorite podcasts LOL, the 12 books I’m reading......leaving absolutely no room for my own voice.
So I’m doing a little intervention this week. Three simple things to reset my interior space. The first two will clear space in your mind. The third one goes deeper, into the stagnation that’s living in your tissues, the feelings you haven’t had time to process and the stress your body’s been holding onto for months, maybe years.
That third one is Deep Nourishment, a practice I created and have been teaching for 14 years. I used to meditate, but I stopped meditating entirely because this is just so much more effective. It guides you deep into your body while you learn to do absolutely nothing. The gourmet version of doing nothing. Pristine focus and deep relaxation at the same time, so your body finally gets a chance to digest what’s been stuck.
I’m hosting a live Deep Nourishment Pattern-Melting Experience this Thursday 4/16 at 6pm CT on Zoom. If you can’t make it live, or you’re seeing this after the date, no sweat, because for the first time ever I’m giving lifetime access to the recording. You could even do it nightly for a while (I certainly will be doing it nightly) Comment “Pattern Melting” and I’ll send you the link.

One afternoon in Santa Monica, October of 2007, I was guided into a practice that nourished me from the inside for the first time.
The anxious patterns of gripping and bracing and rushing that had caused me to reach for food started to melt away on their own.
Over time, I lost 65 pounds without even trying to lose weight.
No micromanaging my body, just getting so nourished from the inside that food could finally be what it’s supposed to be: food.
I’m hosting a rare Deep Nourishment Pattern-Melting Experience this Thursday. Live on Zoom at 6pm CT, or grab the recording with lifetime access. Comment DEEP and I’ll send you the link ❤️

There was a long and painful body-hating season of my life where getting dressed for an event or packing for a beach vacation felt horrific.
I’d stand in the closet, try on four things, and as I looked in the mirror all I could see was how bloated from all the over-eating I’d done earlier that day. I hated getting ready for events, and walk out wearing the loosest thing I owned, trying to hide under baggy clothes.
Feeling unattractive only made me eat more. The war I was fighting inside my own skin feels so far away now that I have to really work to remember those days.
Now I put on a dress and I feel like the woman I always was underneath all of that. Not because my body looks different (although I do think there is something to liking how your body looks). But because how I FEEL inside of it is now a completely different reality.
This is what’s on the other side of the war with food. It’s so much more than just a number on a scale or fitting into the cute cocktail dress for date night. It’s really about the felt experience of loving being a woman in a body.
