Another horrible photo from the Upper Deschutes River where there was a massive kill of healthy fish populations due to the greed of Central Oregon farmers, not willing to leave precious water in the Upper Deschutes River for fish populations.

The staff at the DRC are deeply saddened by the death of these fish on the Upper Deschutes River. This tragedy highlights the complexity of the flow issues that have been affecting the Deschutes River for decades. The DRC and our partners are embarking on a collaborative water management strategy that will hopefully make these types of tragedies a thing of the past.

A Travesty on the Upper Deschutes River - http://www.bendsource.com/Bent/archives/2013/10/18/low-water-leaves-scores-of-fish-dead-on-upper-deschutes - This goes to show who still holds the cards here in Central Oregon. Farming and the way of life that is a huge part of American history is a thing of the past!
Farmers make more money, from the federal and state governments, the more they fail (subsidies), so why is it that we continue to flood the land with precious water in light of the FACT that more failure=more money for these guys? Let them get their government checks and LEAVE THE WATER IN THE RIVER, where it belongs!
Low Water Leaves Scores of Fish Dead on Upper Deschutes
Jeff P.This brown trout and smaller rainbow trout are just a few of the victims of our antiquated water management policies. Countless fish now lay dead on the banks of the Upper Deschutes, stranded after the Water Resources Department reverted to extremely low winter flow rates earlier this week.
