Founded in 2009 and run by Prof. Asche (the year he was graduated to Black belt by Roberto Correa Lima), from 2009-2017 CR Hostel took in thousands of athletes from around the world to train jiu-jitsu in the motherland of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Rio de Janeiro. Many good memories of great training and unforgettable adventures were shared during those years.

Connection Rio Jiu-jitsu Academy in Old Mill District does more than talk about being a BJJ academy with Brazilian roots, we are that academy. Not through a visit to Rio de Janeiro, a week long vacation or even an extended stay of a month or two. 4th degree black belt Dennis Asche live, trained, and breathed the jiu-jitsu lifestyle in Rio, Brazil for twelve years. During that twelve year stay in Rio, Asche had the honor of being the first foreigner to Brazil awarded his brown and black belt by Master Gordo.

Featured here in this photo is Marcio "Mamazinho" Laudier, a senior black belt who Asche trained with for countless rounds, countless hours. Nearly every weekday in a closed door afternoon session between classes "Mamazinho", "Pitty" and Asche would train. During this era, circa 2007 at gordo jiu-jitsu in Largo da Barra Asche spent so much time at the academy training that Master Roberto Correa Lima told him, "You spend more time at my academy than I do." giving him his own key to the front door. To this day Asche is greatful for the opportunities presented to him, for the knowledge passed on to him and for the support from team mates and friends from Gordo Jiu-Jitsu in Rio de Janeiro.
